Hi dosse, gees I must be gettin' blind in me old age...missed this thread completely. When stepinout first posted details of their van on this forum, I had an inkling that the van would be post-1970 and encouraged them to come over an join us on the Classic Caravan forum. I see they ended up doing that a week or so back, but haven't yet posted anything. (tell 'em we don't bite! ) Now looking at the photos of the van, it is clearer that the van is indeed from the early 1970s, perhaps around 1973 or 74. Based on a real old rule-of-thumb about caravan weights being one hundredweight per foot length of cabin (still with me?? ), then my rough-as-g*ts estimate would be 10 x 52kgs = 520kgs. So it will be somewhere around that sort of figure, maybe even up to 600kgs. You tell stepinout don't be shy and post something on the CC forum. I can transfer his photos over there if he wants. ;D ;D cheers, Al. (millard1399 over there).

Hi Al, Thanks to Dossi for posting my photos, I Might learn how to do it one day. Until I do I would be pleased if you would transfer the photos over to the Classic site as well. We have started to clean up the van and have started to plan the repairs and renos. We will probably install a new fridge even though the original 3 way works well and we are not putting the gas stove back as we decided to cook in the annex, so if anyone is interested in the original fridge and stove send me a message. At the end of October we are going bush camping in it with a Rock-n-Roll group then after that the work on it begins. More photos then. Cheers Stepinout

Looks exactly the same as our little 10Ft Franklin we picked up off ebay in victoria about 2 months ago. Ours is in about the same condition too. They were made very cheaply but are very endearing little things. We have had to gut the interior and replace rotted linings front and back. Currently rebuilding kitchen and floor. Ours is a Franklin Statesman and I put it at about '72. Will be posting images when we have it a bit more respectable. They respond very well to some TLC though and it is improving with everything we do.

Our little Franklin Statesman V7784 Is almost complete after major interior renovations. We ended up gutting completely as the interior was totally rotten. Tare weight is 640Kgs after renovations.

G'day phillslats, The "V" series of chassis numbers on the Franklins are from either 1974 or '75 (I haven't worked out exactly which of the two it is, yet), so you are more than welcome to join our sister forum for Classic Caravans built in the 1970s (click here: ditzygypsy.proboards.com/ ). I'm surprised it is a Statesman model because I've always thought the Statesmans were the larger family/live-in size vans, not a little 10-footer. I would have identified your van as the Regent model. Does it actually have the Statesman stickers on it? cheers, Al.
