hi maurie my great great (maybe one more) grandfather, Matthew James Everingham, was convicted of stealing law books and sentenced to 7 years, then transported to aus on the scarborough (first fleet) in 1784. after his sentence expired, he became a bit of an explorer and architect and eventually a chief constable in the windsor area. he and his wife (who was also a transportee) were granted a lump of land near windsor, which he named everingham farm. as a couple of pieces of coincidental history, andy's (and layla's) mother now owns that very same farm - it kinda came back to the family. matthew's best mate on the journey and later in life was a fellow named william hubbard. he was granted the land next to everingham farm - and as you know, judy's married name is hubbard - weird hey. the next question is - why can't i be your new hero - i'm a fifth generation first fleeter? you can read about him at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_James_Everinghamthis has nothing to do with vintage vans except that if he didn't exist, neither would i, so we wouldn't be members of this vintage van forum. geoff 'n jude

Geoff,
Whenever I put mine on show, and I do this as often as I can, the ladies seem to like it.... I have heard many of them say “it’s small, but what more do you need ? ”
Cobber.

G'day Casper,
Were you inundated with people interested in taking your position at Motorfest... did you contact the people at NRMA and were they agreeable to you transferring your spot to somebody else ?
If we only get four Vintage Caravans there that will be a bit sad.... I think.
Cobber.

That's great news Mr. Reddo...it's always good to have one of our new members join us at this great event, should be more of it. I will be taking the merchandise left over from Coledale to Motorfest so, with your experience in the rag and bone trade you can help me push some of that onto the unsuspecting public ;D. See ya there...... I've got my fingers crossed Cobber.

Hi Cobber, Will you have any of the VV stickers? If so can I buy a couple? I am organising the Land Rover 60th Anniversary display. We will have about 25 Land Rovers at the corner of Macquarie and Bent Streets. Anyone on here please have alook at our display. 2008 is the 60th Anniversary of the introduction of the Land Rover and also the 50th Anniversary of the Series 2 - a timeless body style still recognisable in the current Defender models. Will be down to have a gander at the VV display. Not much progress to report on my old commercial traveller's van. HooRoo, Bob

Hi Bob I came down to say gooday and check out the Landys last year. I think you where off sightseeing at the time. Love the old landrovers, have had a couple over the years and oddly enough i didnt manage to break either of them. 1 was a short wheel base series 2A original four banger ( 2 1/4litre ) ex Coal and Allied mining vehicle. 80 - 90kph all day with a camper trailer on behind. Hat head, Nambucca, Barrington Tops National park.. all good trips. Second was a series 3 panel van ( LWB) it had been modified with a 245 Chrysler Hemi motor . Thank god it had the big salisbury diff in it. Went like a scalded cat with heaps of torque. We use to tow a 12 foot caravan ( modern crap) over stockton beach sandhills on fishing trips. Will try and catch up with you while i am down checking out the old motorbikes which are usually just around the corner from you. See ya there. Reddo

Hi Reddo and Cobber, I will see you there and pick up the stickers. How many VVs will be there this year? I will promote the VVs on the AULRO (Australian Land Rover Owners) forum as well - . We have over 3500 members. By the way Cobber would you be interested in bringing your English van to The All British Day to be held at The King's School, North Parramatta in August. The organiser has asked for anyone with suitable vans to make contact. He can give you details at Motorfest. The Land Rover Owners Club of Australia Sydney Branch has organized a twenty five vehicle Land Rover display at the NRMA Motorfest to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the introduction of the Land Rover in 1948 and also the 50th Anniversary of the Series 2. In addition to our members vehicles we have participants from other clubs – Pittwater Motor Enthusiasts’ Association, The Old Motoring Club, the Rover Car Club, Baulkham Hills Rural Fire Service and individuals.
Highlights of the display are: the first 1948 Land Rover registered in NSW (this was Grenville Motors demonstrator); “Old Lazarus” a 1949 built 80” that when rebuilt travelled the Canning Stock Route in 1994; a 1950 80” with capstan winch and rear power take-off and belt drive; a range of 86” and 88” Series 1s from 1954 to 1958 - ute cab, soft and hard tops; two rare Series 1 Station Wagons in 88” and 107” wheelbases; four Land Rover Fire Engines – a 1959 Series 2 used by the Snowy Mountains Authority, 2 1959 Series 2 ex NSW Fire Brigade appliances that later served Bush Fire Brigades and one today is still in service with Baulkham Hills Rural Fire Service, and 1 Series 2A 1969 Bush Fire Brigade vehicle retired from service last year. A range of Series 2As in 88” and 109” and Series 3s including an immaculate original Series 3 Station Wagon.
Not to mention two early Two-Door Range Rovers.
Our display will be situated in a “pride of place” area at the corner of Bent and Macquarie Streets, diagonally opposite the State Library
HooRoo and See you there.
