On one of the other threads a Canberra member wondered if anyone is interested in visiting. We are! Our kids LOVE trips to the ACT. Today we got a "Go Stay" directory left on the doorstep by Sensis and the campsite at the Exhibition Centre sounded good - powered sites, pet-friendly etc. Check it out on www.epic.act.gov.au/camping.asp. Does anyone have experience of the place? Or any other suggestions for campsites in the ACT? So what do people think? The weekend of December 9th/10th looks good for us.

Hi Belinda, You might want to check with EPIC (if you haven't already. The camp park facilities are sometimes closed at certain times of year. Tinnie

I live in Canberra and think you can do better than staying at the Exhibition Centre (EPIC). I guess the question is do you want to stay in town or out of town somewhere like by the Murrumbidgee River. It will be hot that time of year so a bit of water might be good.

I checked and the Cotter Camp ground does not have powered sites. Here is another option, at least it has a pool. and is quite spacious. It is off the main road coming into Canberra. www.carotel.com.au/index.aspKen

HI all We stayed at EPIC with the Shannons 2001 Rally. It was really good because everyone was there for the same thing. We had people from all over Australia staying there. There was about 40 vans and the amenities were great. even our own Laundry. But I was a bit concerned when we all went out together??? If we are not going out would be good. Carotel? have stayed there once? not been back. Ticko's

EPIC advises they are open for camping on December 9th and 10th. The cost is $20 per night on a powered site, no extras if you have a big family. Pet-friendly.
Ticko, when you said you were "concerned when we all went out together" was that because you worried about security? From experience at other gatherings there are usually at least a few people who stay around camp, but it is certainly worth talking about.
cheers

Being from Canberra I haven't needed to stay at either place, though Carotel was used for the FX-FJ Nationals last January and was well received. As plans develop further we can see how us locals can assist in making your stay interesting. I'm also keen to check out the vans that come along. Cheers, David

Carotels doesn't allow pets, which would be a problem for several of our members.

Hi all You can put me down as a "definite maybe" . Might conflict with bike club xmas party Canberra is around 4 and a bit hours from Newy.. No big deal. Two things governing my confirmation apart from the party.. One is you will have to garauntee that it isnt going to be 100 degrees that weekend. Second is ... You have mentioned some parks dont accept animals........ whats the point in me going if they wont allow me through the gate. ;D Can i bring my gun and have a day out shootin' politicians Reddoublebarrel

Hi folks It's margaret's mum here, finally got to join the site after months of trying. Being based in Canberra I'm hoping to organise something with the home of the pink probie the NMA, I've to let them know how many vans. I took someone's suggestion and mentioned that the V V'ers may want to rock up to the Museum and display themselves. I recently had a look round the pink probie which is fantastic, and the museum has lots of caravan documents in archive. Here is hoping that the weekend can be productive. Would you like me to organise the caravan park, I'm sure I can manage it! Maybe anyone interested can get back to me within the next week. And, we have a spot at COLEDALE so will see you there.

OK, is this Get Together happening on the 8th/9th December? I live in Canberra so it doesn't really affect me other than it would be nice to link up if anyone is coming.

Hi folks, it's Margaretsmum here.
Koala Ken and myself need to know, Is Anybody Out There wishing to come to Canberra in December?
I have been to view the Vintage Caravan collection at the National Museum of Australia and they're willing to show us the archive on Friday afternoon, their documents, a folding probert and some enormous signs and advertising stuff from the probert factory.
Koala Ken has been to check out a campsite by the river in Queanbeyen but he thinks that a few members were thinking more of the site at Exhibition Park.
Anyway, anyone showing interest, please let us know within the next 7 days otherwise we'll cancel, or (even sadder) the Canberra members can go away for the weekend to guess where, Canberra. How sad.
bye

We'll cancel the Canberra visit and the visit to NMA.
Hopefully, there'll be more interest at a different time of year.
