Hi All We joined up with some of the members from Bendigo Veteran, Vintage, Clasic Car Club last weekend in Avoca Central Victoria. There were not as many old vans as I thought that there would be. In all there were 54 people on the Rally mainly in newer vans. Mark & Maureen were there in their newly restored 1940's Bondwood, Richard & Lyn in their van, a cross between a teardrop and a small bondwood, and Gay & Myself in our 1961 Roadhaven (1st time out in this van) On arrival at the Avoca Caravan Park on Friday afternoon we were met by the Park manager who was getting all excited about the Roadhaven. When he settled down he said that he wanted to check the van out as he started working for Franklin in the early 60's He started at 15 as an apprentice body builder and was employee no 24 Had quite a few talks with him over the weekend about his time working for Franklin. He also told me about the 3 places that Franklin were made in Ballarat. I called into Ballarat on the way home and took some photos of the last Franklin Factory. Will post photos & information that Mal told me in the next couple of days ;D ;D ;D Roadhaven & Mark's 1940's Bondwood Mark's 1940's Bondwood Rear ends of Roadhaven & 1940's van Richard & Lyn's Bondwood Mural over the fireplace at the Caravan Park Victorians should be able to remember these yellow express trucks around Melbourne Spoke to the driver of this truck as he was leaving the depot in Avoca. He was taking this load to a big ebay player in Newcastle. He was back loading out of Sydney Caravans to Gippsland to another ebay player ; Geoff ;D ;D ;D ;D

Good to see more vans firefighter, like you say shame more oldies did'nt turn up, but you can be sure as bondwood is best that the numbers will only grow at events such as these due to their growing popularity. The little/big teardrop/van thingy sure is cute, have you any history on it. Kingy

Good one Geoff! Still waiting on that backload from Sydney, aparently there was a tree branch in the way when they went to load the van up: Gunna need a bit of work when it does turn up On a more serious note, can't wait to see the pics of the old Franklin factory, I will have to get the address and call past to pay my respects on the way to MT Gambier next year, maybe take the Franklin to it's birth place The Franklin might need to take a visit to Avoca sometime too, maybe meet it's maker Thanks for sharing, Tinnie Founder of the Gippsland Home For Lost and Wayward Franklins ;D

Tinnie Three points of interest in this pic here. Attention Mark Taylor... Is that light fitting ( Red Lamp) the same as the one you are chasing for the Don??? V8 Cusso grill badge on shed door is in good nick if someone is chasing one. I bags the old bedhead being used as a gate/fence... would look novel screwed to the wall at one end of "matildas" double bed... bit big to get through the door of the teardrop Yours truely Harold steptoe
