The 'official' dates for the Vintage Caravan Nationals are Sunday the 16th March to Thursday the 20th March 2008.
Those of us to wish to stay on for Easter are welcome to do so.
The 'favoured' caravan park appears to be the Blue Lakes caravan park. As Tickos said, there are sites available, but bookings must be made NOW.
The Blue Lakes caravan park will set aside an area for us, but they won't be "en-suite" sites.......Personally, I like it like this, coz I enjoy a stroll to the loo, tripping over guide ropes on the way after toooo many light refreshments ;D ;D
As for the FE FC Nats, Ditz & I will more than likely be in an FC, but will be staying on at the caravan park and participating in the Nats as SPECTATORS ONLY when appropiate, so we will be with the Vintage Vanners who stay on for Easter. (if they haven't had enough of us by then) ;D
THOSE OF YOU WHO WISH ME TO BOOK A SITE FOR YOU, PLEASE USE THIS THREAD

Hiya All At Marks request i have copied this post over from the "vintage vans 2008 nationals"thread Info on booking details as well as a bit of my usual dribble is as follows.
Hi all
Its is with deep regret that i have to inform you that The reddos ( not sure which ones yet) have just booked in at the van Park from Monday 17th to easter sunday morning 23rd.
I understand that may insite riots and rebellion .. in fact we might get a few reports of attempted suicide. If you like ya's can start a petition and form a eureka stockade like blockade at the park gates.... i dont care i am coming to mt Gambier whether ya like it or not......., so there!!!
Iasked about keeping numbers and names of who is coming and reserving sites................. Sue at the park has stated that she is giving everyone from vintage vanland the same story. "We are a very large park and we will not be reserving sites for anyone. Just turn up and pick a spot".... she did say that she has no problems with us saving a site either side of the one we pick when we get there. So the plan would be for those that get there early stake out as much turf as you can for those rocking in on monday or tuesday. They require a deposit of one nights accomodation which is $27. cheques to be made payable to Blue lake holiday Park Post to... 'Blue lake holiday Park . P.O.Box 773 Mount Gambier South Australia. 5290
Idea of leaving Sunday is that the roads will be a lot quieter than Easter friday or monday. To me it would be madness to be on the road in an old car towing a van whilever there is a glut of high speed trendys on the road that have no understanding of older slower cars towing old vans. Leaving sunday would mean coping a bit less abuse and not being spat on while being overtaken. Heading east on the T.G.O.R will probably be a lot busier than heading west out into.. no mans land.. The nullaboring. Gunna review my travelling to details and post them on JBJs thread. see yas there.

Book us in (Ann, Stephen and Kate O'Donnell) for 16th March to 21st March. We will send off the deposit to the Caravan Park. It will be great to see all of you and your vans. Got to go and get some sleep. We've nearly finished the inside undercoat on our van and time is now ticking to 2008. Regards, Ann

G'day, I spoke to Simon today at the Blue Lake Holiday Park. I booked two sites from Sunday 16th to Easter Sunday. (1 site for me and the family and 1 for my FC driving-50s bondwood towing mate and his co-pilot/s). Simon said he will reserve an area of the park for us, hasn't decided exactly where yet, he will wait a bit longer and see how many of us there are. I will be towing the new caravan that I am picking up this Thursday. I will have to park it in between Reddo and his fellow comrades disciples umm, mates? of the Royal Australian Bondwood Preservation Society and those of the Aluminium Brigade (the True Tinnies). For those that have never been there, the Mount is a beautiful place, plenty to see and do (even without VVs and FC-FEs) and its a lovely caravan park, perched above the blue lake. (Couple of great pubs too, had lunch in one last weekend -Vic labour day weekend) - highly recommend coopers pale ale off the tap! Cheers, Tinnie (and a lot of Woodie too) Hey, I'm talking about the Vintage Caravan, ok! ;D

Hi Mark,
Are you still acting as the contact point for bookings for the 2008 V C Nationals in Mt Gambier? If so, can you arrange a powered site for me from Saturday, 15 March to Thursday, 20 March please? I presume that power isn't an issue??
I may have to leave for home on Wednesday, 19 March - bit hard to tell this far out, I normally have to work through Easter - but book me through to the Thursday anyway.
If you're not organising bookings for camping sites at this point, just let me know and I will contact Blue Lake direct.
Regards,
Don Ricardo

Hi there
I should have my Carapark ready for an outing with a discerning VV crowd by then, and the Caravan Park sounds lovely. I'll be there! Book me in for the 16th to the 23rd. Mel Robertson.
Will send a cheque to the Park direct but need some advice...... I'm in a tinnie, what's a safe distance to be away from Reddo? Should I book a different caravan park so I don't have to guard my "Bess" from can openers in the night???
Also, anyone know if the park allows very obedient dogs?
Mel

hi there mel
from what reddo has told us, there is no safe distance from him. he has a number of cement filled watermelons that he reckons he can launch from any distance with pin-point accuracy.
the best protection from reddo is a large jar filled with very hungry whiteants - his 'fort' will be reduced to dust in minutes.

Hey Mel, My Franklin is a Hybrid (Tin & bondwood) so you should be OK coz I will be somewhere in between you and Reddo. I will be in the "Outer Edge" that being the outer edge of Bondwood Boulevarde and the outer edge of Tincan Alley ;D I believe a couple of Tooheys New's will be the go. Assist Reddo to adjust his beer goggles and no-one in the Royal bondwood Preservation society will notice your van is made of tin. Cheers, Tinnie

"its wood or nothing". Lets have none of this talk of 50/50 stuff on Bondwood Boulevarde. We at the RSPBCV are purists and dont encourage interbreeding of anysort. ;D ;D

Geez Reddo, Its not easy being a misfit, a 50/50. No one in bondwood land wants to know us, coz we're not 'natural'.....and the aluminum brigade dont trust us, they think we're half masked spies from the land of bondwood. But I have a cunning plan........................an aluminium van, disguised in ply. You won't know where and you won't know when. BUT, it will infultrate the most senior ranks of the RSPBCV and when it reveal its true identity............... You better have all cannons on the starboard side fully loaded with concrete filled watermelons. ::)Tinnie PS Mark T - you are right we do need a BS alley...........

Hey Reddo, does it count that my Tinnie has a ply interior?? Surely you wouldn't want to damage some precious timber.
Will stock up on Toohey's just in case though.....
Mel
PS: to Tinnie's, if we run out of firewood we know where to go....

Looking forward to meeting, and sharing a few Coopers with all you guests to our fine city. The Fairholme wont be finished by then so we wont be moving out of home and into the park for the week, although anybody is welcome to come around and help out on the resto job if you get bored while in town ;D. See you here!

Hey 61 Dodge, Be sure to swing by the Franklin where you will be guaranteed to find an icy cold Coopers. I don't drink nuthin but Pale Ale! (Well ok, the occassional Dark Ale finds it's way into my hands). Lookin forward to the Mount, I have been there dozens of times (even got married there - well Kalangadoo actually) but this will be the longest and most relaxed stop in the Mount Ive had I reckon!
Cheers,

Will be more than happy to share a Coopers or two with you ;D. Married in K'doo?!! Couldn't you find a more out of the way place? Do all you people know that over the easter weekend there is another gathering of vans near by? The Van council of Australia(bunch of stuck in the seventies panel vanners ) is holding their nationals at Port Macdonald just south of here. They are having a public display and show'n'shine on Saturday. Anybody from here would be welcome to attend if they were interested. I can get more info if anybody wants. If nothing else it would be a good day trip for those who stay around for easter. Cheers. Dave.

Dave, My first car was a Panno, albeit not a very cool - one, but I reckon a trip down to check out a heap of 70s vans at the port on Sat would be great. More info would be much appreciated. Cheers, Tinnie

Hi Tinnie There was/is another thread about the 2008 vint catavans nationals at Mt G. In amongst the posts is this reply from 61 dodge- Dave
Re: Vintage Caravan Nationals March 2008 « Reply #25 on Dec 27, 2006, 10:35pm »
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Redo, the van nats are being organised by a good friend of mine, they look like being based at the Pt McDonald football oval at this stage(PtMac is on the coast 25KM south of the Mount). All camping aswell as most meals and events are going to be 'in house' at the footy ground. Planning is in the early stages but that is what is happening at the moment. If you are interested PM me and I will pass on the organisers phone no. to you, that way you can get the right info, not just the second hand stuff. Cheers. Dave. Link to Post - Back to Top Logged
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cheers. Dave and Leah.
Hope this info helps Reddo

The Van nats are definaltey on at PtMac. On Saturday the public is welcome to come along to the Show'N'Shine. You can enter if you wish, with your cool tow car, with or without vint van attached(there is a small entry fee involved), you are then realy part of it and eligable for judging, trophys, and possibly a meal when the presentations are done(will get more info on that one). The vanners are a fun bunch and do 'people games' during the day, an inter club tug-of-war is part of it, plus lots of other silly stuff. We are also welcome to be part of this if we have a few going down. Looking forward to the whole thing.

You'll be most welcome Urkel, tin or not, it's still vintage. My van is a hybrid (tin top, ply sides), so you can park near me no probs. I think my van could be a divider (or amongst the dividers) between tin and timber. Will you be towing with the Humpy? Cheers, Gristy (Tinnie)
