There have been a few posts lately along the lines of "I want a van for me and the wife and two or three little tackas"
While most of you seem to be lucky couples who get out and about in a nice van and manage to leave the family at home, some of us still have a kid or two in tow.
However, it's still lots of fun. We've just had a week away in a 9'6" van with three kids and it was terrific.
What hints do people have for trips with kids? It might convince a few of those website visitors who are wavering about getting into this stuff.
- first and foremost, keep reminding your wife that an enthusiasm for vintage vans is a heap more family-friendly than restoring military vehicles
- don't get a van with more than three berths. A five-berth van means sharing with four other people who fart and snore and get up for a wee every five minutes through the night. Get a three berth van and put the kids in a tent (tell them it's an adventure)
- go away often so everyone has good travel skills
- make up a checklist and print it out before every trip. If anyone would like a copy of mine I'm happy to email it - send me a personal message
- Keith Winser books have lots of practical caravanning ideas and are worth a read
- have a rule "one bag each" and the answer to "Mum, where is my ..." is "I have no idea, where did YOU put it"

Well done Belinda We are in the process of packing for our 10 day family holiday down the coast . only one kid (growing up too quick) Our theory on packing is - put everything out you want to take, then put half back in the cupboard, you wont need it all!!! I agree with the three berth, it also gives the snorer or non snorer an option to move after that heavy night out with friends and fellow campers. Caravan beds are too small at times. Also Junior had good results at school for Geography last year. :)So there is definately an educational bonus to this caravaning caper. We all relax, 8-)go fishing, and swimming, and socialising together, what a way to enjoy family life!!!! Ticko's
