Hi Whippy,
Looks good. Its always good to see another old van saved & restored.
The towcar looks pretty good . I bought an XK 144 auto back when I was 18, & had a lot of fun with it over a couple of years. Mine was red & white. Would have been around1965 from memory.
Those SA vans had fantastic shapes in their rooflines, something that funnily enough wasnt copied around the rest of Australia.
Hope you & your family enjoy your holiday.

Pymie, the fowlcan is just a filler5, the real tow car is a 49 spinner ute, which is why the orange on the van.
Well I'm off, sorry I couldn't make Xmas in the Blue Mountains, but this trip is more sensible for a debut drive.

Hi Whippy, Wow! what can I say!! you have done a fantastic job on the Globey the interior looks a million dollars. You must be very proud of what you have achieved with this van, a far cry from what you started with not so long ago. The only 2 things I would change if it were mine is I think it needs a couple of those boomerang logos on it front and rear and I would put a hubcap on as to me the wheels look a bit unfinished without one. Other than that I am in awe and I wish you all the best with your new toy! BTW does anybody know how or where you can get the globe trotter boomerang logos from? I am guessing you can't get them new anymore so you would have to get a scanned logo and go to a printers and get them made?

Andrew82 I know where you can get the boomerang logo,if you were to ring Coronet Caravans at 120 Canterbury Road Bayswater Victoria on 03 9761 5388 and speak to Andrew He will make them up for you and post them to you,for a price.

Hi Whippy A very neat looking outfit I must say, the paintwork & colour scheme have been mightily enhanced with the break along the side & the slight 'V' at the front, I find that quite amazing the difference that has made in comparison to straight lines. Love the water tank & tap over the sink too Have fun. Surf Tragic

Hey Whippy, sorry to hear about the Fowlcan boiling it's head off. Somethng weird going on there especially since everything is new. Glad to see even though you had a few dramas your still in good spirits! Jezebel and I are barely talking still and my eyes are starting to wander. Jeez it was a dissapointing trip! good on you for keeping ya chin up! I hope the couple problems that you have encountered don't give you too much grief. All the best with it Andrew

Thanks for your comments.
One thing I forgot to comment about, I glued the two aluminiun front stone deflectors on to the body with contact adhesive, one came off at 100 kph. The originals had screws in them so that is something to consider when replacing them.

That sucks! did you get it back? or was it lost somewhere?. Also I'm guessing nobody was behind you at the time, as you would have mentioned it. One thing I ws very thankful of when my hatch blew off, can you imagine driving down the road at 100k and having a 2.5m x 1.1 metre long roof hatch come flying at you I shudder to think what might have happened. Like wise for the stone guard it could have tuned vertical and instead of floating to the ground like a leaf falling from a tree it could have gone through someones windscreen.

Hi Whippy Some of the new adhesives are very good Try Sikaflex, Bostik or Matrix They stick like the proverbial to a blanket Saves punching holes in the van for screws etc Not all that expensive if you consider having to replace the missing bit Or even worse the insurance premium hike - because of an accident Cheers Atog

The alumium cladding only cost $30 so there is no problem replacing it. It folded back and the bottom edge had three screws in it, so it wasn't a hazard to other drivers. To continue on after removing the cladding, I screwed the other side so I would lose it as well. Looking at the overheating problem tomorrow. Got some moon discs for the fowlcan, she looks better.

I have replaced the core in the radiator with a new 3 core V8 one & fitted a 16 inch Thermo fan, still runs a little hot but she has introduced other problems:- Had this loud wurring noise, tracked it down to an alternator bearing, Then I couldn't start the car because for some reason the inhibitor swich malfunctioned, Replaced it. Last weekend the bitch blew a auto transmission line and I left about a kilometre oil line down the road, luckily I saw the smoke from the oil burning on the exhaust and did a U turn, ran out as I rolled into the driveway. I wonder what's next ? I am driving it as much as i can cos next week we go to Bright Rod Run.

G'day whippy, Sorry to hear about your problems with the foulcan. Shoulda bought a Holden mate. LOL. You mention that the timing runs 10 degrees retarded because of the cam. In a previous working life I was an aircraft and auto electrician. I had a customer once with an XM with a V8 in it and he'd removed the engine driven fan and it would hardly get from his place a few blocks to mine to have a termo fan fitted and that was with nothing behind the car. I fitted the thermo fan but the car still overheated. He took my car back to his place and got the original fan and we put that back on and just used the thermo for a bit more airflow. This bloke intended to tow a van with his XM. He had modified the engine but I can't remember what he'd done. Just a couple of points on engines running hot. Retarded timing and lean mixture each by themselves can cause engines to run hot and possibly overheating and if those two are combined you may have that problem to the point of it boiling its head off under a heavy load. Also the cam may not be suitable for towing a heavy van/trailer. I'll be honest, without having a look I couldn't make any definite diagnosis, but retarded timing and lean mixture can cause overheating. I'd be heading down that path first in the search. Cheers, Ross. ps The falco looks great with its new hubcaps.
