Wayne made a good suggestion to have the Coledale get together as an annual event - do the same thing in 2006 on the first weekend after the October school holidays.

Yo all Got home bout 3 ish. The old FB never missed a beat all weekend. I would dearly love to go again next year but Unfortunately I don't think my liver will stand another full on session of Jail Bar Juice. It certainly flattened a few round the campfire last night . Curse you " Jail Bar Dennis the Menace" While i have your attention I would really like to thank Ticko and his missus Lynelle for doin a heap of work in the background to ensure we had a great weekend. Endless supply of ice . an old washin machine adggie for the camp fire and a heap of wood stolen from under thier neighbours house to keep us warm. They organised the local TV mob to come around and chat at thier place and then the local newspaper came round and cornered ticko again, then me . (I even got a mention in the Mercury and thats the roo van over ticko and Lynelles shoulder in the snip out of the paper.) Maurie was runnin around like a blue arse fly getting everyone organised for a cruise in around The "Gong" then he managed to pull a few strings at the Scaborough pub and we where allowed to park on the grassed area at the top of the cliff overlooking the ocean while we scoffed down one of the best pub meals i have ever tackled. Later in the day..... I seem to remember being slid into the back of a white Hearse at one stage . Photos taken "Lying in state" with flagon of Jail bar juice and holding a couple of purple flowers. ...... Thats another story. Humpty has the evidence in his camera. Cobber is heading for the chemist .The flashbulbs from all the media attention has burnt his eyeballs. Sorry "Hollywood" I just had to get a shot in somewhere. I consider myself lucky to be associated with such a great bunch of people . 14 vans , about 40 people and all true blue Aussies. Thanks you Mark and Ditzy for founding such a great site and giving us an opportunity to"find each other" www.vintagecaravans.com certainly got more than the occasional mention whenever someone stuck a microphone or notepad in front of us. I won't dribble on. i am sure there will be others who will give a better account of the whole weekend than i could give. Cheers Reddo

On one of the other threads Ray expressed concern that Coledale might become a bit small as the vintage van movement grows.
Don't worry. Meets would have to double before we ran out of space. As well as the sites we used this weekend there are areas generally kept for tents which could certainly take vans.
Also, because we are one group rather than separate hirers I think the management would let us squeeze some more vans onto the sites. As everyone will tell you, at Coledale the sites are BIG. We had six people, a van, two cars and a tent and there was still enough room for the picnic table, the umbrella and a t-ball game.
Should the vintage van movement eventually get big enough to require enormous venues I hope there will always be room in the calendar for events like Coledale - a few friends having a short break not far from home. Why not stay there on your way through to SA? If you advertise the date we'll probably join you.

What a weekend!!!!!! Just letting you know we got home in one piece wimped on the short steep hill but took Philips local knowledge and made it easy up the other hill. We would like to thanku all for making it such a great gathering. Many thanks to Lynelle, Reddo Maurie and belinda in no particular order. But from there I have to go on and include the Cobbers, Humpty 2s, Spiders, carapark and everyone else. Even though we are technically Holden people I must admit the big Ford and the hearse are great vehicles and what a great little number the hot rod is. Thanks reddo for the little caravan momento that was great touch. We were honourd to be one of the lucky reciprients of the Jail Bar Juice Cafelua and I suspect that will make for a few garbled emails over the coming months if it lasts that long.......... Loved it all Panda

A really great weekend was had at Coledale. Half way down Bulli Pass, on the Friday, I came across a vintage caravan towed by the biggest Ford hard top convertible I have ever seen parked on the side of the road. I pulled up behind them, they were resting their brakes, they were on their way to Coledale, they are not on the Internet, a friend told them about the event and booked them in while they were OS on holidays, the penny dropped--I said “YOU WOULDN’T BE MRS., MAGRIN BY ANY CHANCE!!??”---she was. So began the Coledale weekend. Previous postings have said it all, including the reference by Panda to the 15 “Coledale 2006” mementos made with his own hands and with loving care from stolen parts by Reddo, and given to each member present while we sat around the washing machine fire place provided by the Tickos, drinking knock ya dead “jailbar juice” provided by jailbarjuice (nice touches folks, thank you). As for parking the jay between an Austin and a Ford Reddo, your right, they stole the limelight. Mr. Magrin spent the weekend demonstrating to all and sundry how the roof tucked into the boot and I had trouble keeping up with the Austin going up Bulli on the way home. Coledale 2006? Sure thing. The only picture (scan) I can contribute at the moment is of the beaut little memento given to all by Reddo. I loved the story that accompanied it. Thanks Reddo. Cobber.

A big thankyou to all at Coledale yesterday. I was a visitor to your event & we did enjoy the day. Befor leaving we just stood on top of the hill looking down at the sea, pine trees, pre 1964 cars & those lovely restored vans. I have been to many transport museums all over the world but that was like going back into time (very strange feeling)....... Yes for a while I was in 1964......... Thank you all for creating a spectical for all who visited the beach that morning......Well worth the trip from our home at Cootamundra. Mr & Mrs FC_driver PS ....We coulden,t resist having a hamburger on the way home at a hamberger shop...Not McDonalds...as I didn,t want to leave that timewarp........I will pas the Photos around at our next Coota Car Club meeting ;D

So far the East Coast events to put in your diaries for 2006 are:
Australia Day - NRMA Motorfest. Put applications in to Steven Knox ASAP
May 15th (?) - Central Coast run to Towoon Bay or Lake Munmorah. Original proposed date was April Fools, but that clashes with the national run to SA
October, first weekend after the school holidays - back to Coledale
No doubt other things will come up through the year - look forward to seeing you all again.

Ok you East Coasters listen up !!! Now that the dust has settled, van has been unpacked , bugs have been picked out of the grill on the tow car. I have been thinking ( i dont like thinking too often. it gives me headaches). One of my better thoughts was that we would be wise to bulk book the entire Coledale reserve for the weekend after the longweekend in October 2006. If we dont we could find ourselves camped amongst a few non vintage van type campers . Judging by the look on Norm the caretakers face on the saturday arvo i reckon he would be more than happy to have us take over the reserve again next year ;D. He could save a few sites for tents that are unsuitable for setting up vans. If we get the 14 or 15 back who attended this year, as well as blokes like Todd on the scout for a van and others like fcdriver from coota coming over for a look i reckon we could end up with 20 or more in 2006 . Its only a matter of a phone call now to secure our sacred site for next time. Whats everyones thoughts on this??? Am i crystal balling too much here or what?? The lines are open and we have operators waiting for your call. Ring now and recieve a free autographed copy of reddos thoughts on the back of a postage stamp Reddo Last words Norm said as i was leaving Coledale..... "thanks for the gift (minature caravan) i will stick it on top of my fridge to remind me of you lot everytime i go to get a beer out" ..........How else would i want to be remembered ;D

Hey Reddo
Saw the van on ebay - looks great - as you say it looks like a modern Sunliner - maybe thats the issue with it, in that it looks TOO modern. Would look great behind an FB wagon though!!

Hey Reddo1 That is a good idea. Just yesterday Missus and me took her mother for a drive and we finished up at Coledale for a picnic lunch. Wife said “might be a good idea to make a group booking if we want to come down here next year” I said “that’s a good idea luv” We went over to the office to say G’Day to Norm. He said “if you all intend coming down again next year it might be wise to make a group booking”. I said “that’s a good idea Norm”. Trouble is, this mob’s got no leader--an we don’t want one eh?. What we need is volunteers, and I volunteer you Reddo1 to ring Norm and book the park for the second weekend after the labour day weekend next year ;D. If you don’t want to do it I will Does anybody disagree with that date Norm said he didn’t want any money yet Cobber.

Hi cobber
a wise man once said "Great minds think alike" . I will hold off for a week to get feedback from the rest of the crew.
If all is well then i will ring and book the entire park. it will be up to the individuals to show their good faith and send norm a deposit. first in best dressed on the powered sites for the "softies" .
"Kerosine Alley " suits me just fine. I think Murray might think twice about playing with matches next year..... giggle, giggle.

The dates for the equivalent weekend in 2006 are Friday Ocober 20 to Sunday October 22.
This is the first weekend after the NSW school holidays and we have already booked a powered site! (our favourite one next to the amenities block).
So if you are going next year and want power, get in quick because there are only three powered sites left.
Norm is happy to take bookings, with payment closer to the event. His phone number is 4267 4302.
He also said that the captain of the surf club is happy for us to use their hall if we wanted to.

Maurie
i mentioned that i will give it a week or so before booking the weekend in 2006. things like other runs with other clubs is bound to raise its head but in the end we have to make a firm decision and just go ahead and do it. i gave up a bike run this year and will probably do the same again next year. coledale is a once a year event and i wouldn't miss it for quids.
Looks like the 20th ( Belinda is this a friday??? I dont have next years calander yet. ) is the go..... Belinda has already booked in.
