Hi Dennis Backyard at Reddos still has a few powered sites left. U R More than welcome to rock in Thursday arvo. Trish works tues and thurs arvos so she wont be home till about 8.30. We can knock the froth off a few beers and have a BBQ if that suits you and boots. Or head over to the local bowling club for the best chow feed in Australia. Early morning start ups..... I have a poster on the wall in my shed that reads. "Reddo and sons... Motorcycle Engineers" ( a susiduary of ... The shed of invention Inc ) Specialising in Nut rounding, piston meltdowns, valve bouncing, paint runs, parts misplacing, bird shit welds, Procurement and fitment of illegal speed equipment, Wheel buckling service avaliable... free drip tray with every service. "Oil leaks ignored .. lies about speed and reliabilty encouraged" test rides 24 hours a day... stuff the neighbours!!!"So i feel that business ethics statement should cover the start up of air compressors, V8s with loud 'zorts etc between 4 and 5 am. No worse than the bunch of neighbourhood dogs that i have copped in the past barking all night If the neighbours can sleep through thier hounds nutting off then they wont even hear us leave the street. If they protest we can always tow / push the rod and van out onto the street and spark it up. cheers mate. Reddo

G'day Maurie, Sorry Big D is'nt here to respond so I'll do so on his behalf ;D I will indeed be travelling down the mountains with Don and I expect our E.T.A. to be 0630 hrs... That is providing somebody has sorted out his cars vapour lock problem... The owner and afforementioned vehicle will however remain nameless See you all there and I better run for cover now Cheers Greg P.S. Belinda I could not find your letter in The Open Road Ive looked and I have looked and I have looked to no avail

Hi Greg,
the Open Road letter was in the "Torque Back" section and said:
"Once again the Open Road has missed an important point in the November/December cover story "What's Your Alternative". Chris Sheedy lists a range of alternatives to petrol and tips for saving fuel, but forgets that by far the easiest way to cope with petrol costing more is simply driving a bit less.
I'm a silver NRMA member, and our household of two drivers and three kids has four personal cars, one company car and a pink-and-white vintage caravan (regularly seen at Motorfest). However, we also have a posse of bikes and a stack of timetables. The family budget is cushioned against petrol price increases because for us driving is just one part of a transport mix. We use cars for those trips they do best, and at other times we hop on a bike or catch a train.
Like 93-year-old Arthur Milward who was featured in the same issue, I'm still an NRMA member even when I'm not behind the wheel. The challenge to the NRMA and the Open Road is to occasionally step out of the car too."
cheers Belinda

Great letter Belinda and possibly an alternative that most of us wouldnt consider. The fuel companies know this though. They are probably worlds worst drug dealers. They know the human race, and they know that we can't do without our cars , they know the alternatives for us are limited and so they just charge us what they like. At first we scream about the fuel price but then we just get used to seeing it , we pay it, then we all quieten down again. ITs the same with a lot of companies, the government is a huge one for it. Just think about how much your house rates were ten years ago, and then look at them now. Perhaps our problem is that we complain to each other about it all and not to management. I dont know what the best ways to fight the fuel companies are. But perhaps you have hit the nail on the head. They are possinly the most powerful entities in the world. Do you remember a few years ago when the federal government actually made a stand against them and raided Shells"? offices? they made it quite clear that if the govt didnt back off they would move all operations off shore then no one would have a chance at controlling the priceof fuel at all. Rambled enough Scoot

Hi vanners, Looking forward to seeing your display again this year at the Motorfest! I will be with the Land Rover Club display and maybe next year I will have my commercial traveller's van there. I seem to remember a post from Belinda (that I can't find now) where you had some of the VV stickers. Do you have any left? If so could I arrange to get one at the Motorfest? Could you PM me. Bob

Hey Trodler. You can consider yourself very lucky you have a "Boy" Propert . Spare a thought for me trying to get "Matilda " ready for the show . Started last week. went to about 8 dress shops. Waited patiently while she fitted about 7 evening gowns on . Then we moved to the shoe shop...... will it be stillettos or something a bit more informal . Tonight i have to take her to the hairdressers and sit for 2 hours while she gets a tint & blow wave , facial and her nails painted. Then it will be out of bed at midnight so she can have a 2 hour bubble bath in milk and strawberries then another hour of applying her rouge , make up and lippy She mumbled something about Mr FJ Mauries.."DORIS" being there and she is a real fashion statement . I can expect to have to stop 8 or 9 times on the way down so she can "relieve herself' too much excitement causes a weak bladder and all that you know I have been told i have to pack the red carpet for when we pull up in macquarie st. She doesnt want her 205 x 15 dunlops getting bitumen on them . Struth Ruth ... Bloody girl vans.....More trouble than thier worth. Take em shoppin and they wear out your credit card ... and your patience .........Dunno why we marry them Jeeezzz i will make sure that my TD gets a name like george, fred.....etc. In future i will leave the girls names for boats . Miss Hap, Miss adventure, Miss take, Miss fire, Miss Tameaner Me and "Fast Eddy EK Yoot" ... No Wuckers mate ....stubbys, singlet, thongs........tank full of premium and off we go..... Ready in 2 minutes flat. ;D Could be warmed up and ready even quicker if we knew a girl was gunna pull our choke knob out ;D ;D ;D. See yas there early . Reddo , Eddy and "Matilda the Tart ;D" From

All fingers crossed on The Austin because guess what same weather as last year up here BLOODY MIST. Young Mr Norris said i would be ok if i fixed my Vapour Lock problem. Well i have great faith ( you have to when driving an English car ) and at least i dont have to hide my car whenever it looks like rain ( someone must be frightened they will turn into sauerkraut. Anyway see you all in the morning. don

Hi V V ers. As usual we all had a great day yesterday, the weather was kind so that brought out the lookers in there thousands, even 100 thousands. Linda and I were kept busy for most of the day answering questions about the FJ Ute and propert. For most of the day we had atl east 6 to 8 people lined up just to have a look in the door of the Propert. Here are a couple of photos taken at about 9 oclock, before the crowd came out. Cheers. Trodler.

Motorfest 2007 Started for me about 6.00pm Thursday night when Dennis and his lovely wife Sue rolled up the drive in the Rod with the BONDWOOD van " Groovin" in tow. I had great plans for cookin a BBQ but we got side tracked between The shed of invention and the BBQ area downing stubbys. In the end i rang Trish at work and she lobbed home about 8.30 with a good old Ozzie feed of Fish and Chips... washed down with even more stubbies. A shower and off to bed about 10.30pm/ Friday morning 4.00am out of bed. hadnt been asleep since 2.00 ... have i packed this, did i remember that, must do.. bla, bla when i get up. A quick cuppa and we where on our way. Caught Maurie at Wahroonga about 6.10am and headed for the big coathanger. Maurie pulled up on the bridge for a few shots of the 3 utes and vans. He was like a frog on a highway leaping from one lane to the other with a camera in his hand dodgeing the cars. Roll Call at 7.00am Macquarie st, Sydney The Cobbers and the "old 36" , Caspers with sunliner , The Tickos , MrFJ55 and "Doris the atlantic, Reddo and eldest son Luke with "Matilda Fairway" , Trodler with the fresh green Propert resto, Bigdidda with his austin ( yay she made it) and the Propert... across the road Belinda , rod and a coupla youngens with the Pink atlantic, Veedub Nut with that great little Td behind the VW beetle and down the street a bit on his ownsome ( but never without a crowd. ) was JBJand Boots with the 42 Ford Hot Rod ( or is it a HQ Ute???) with that bloody massive motor hanging outta the front of it.. Humid in the morning then a beaut Nor easter kicked in about the same time as the crowd. Thousands and thousands of them. Plenty of leads on old vans and regallia. Some smart arse steered a bloke onto me .. told him i was the expert on fibreglass vans... vvvveeeeerrrrryyyyy funny wiseguys. Even had two wallop..... er... ummmm Policemen walk up to me and say " Your Reddo arent you??.... Well folks shits was trumps I tell you. Been a long time since i have been stuck for words but these 2 put the salts right through me. Once they confirmed that they are watchers on our forum and not about to throw me in irons i felt a whole lot better. Even started given a bit of cheek and asked if i could get a photo odf me in between them with handcuffs on and battons drawn for the website. They politely declined. Hi Guys if you are reading this..... Hmmmm Hows about a vintage divvy van/ paddy wagon done up as a camper. Met a few faces that have names on this site. Aussietanker brought the missus along for a look hoping to convince her that vint vanning is fun. Got a PM from him around midnight last night.apparently she is hooked. they drove home talking about colourschemes, curtains and what sort of van suits them best. We met the owners of "Marvin"... really nice people, caught up with bobshannon, Melanco .. had a great scoff on cakes supplied , thanks heaps. Geoff and Jude made a cameo apparance as did an old couple that dont subscribe to the forum. They knew that we woukld be at motorfest and had travelled down from there home which is north of Newcastle. Came all the way with thier 2007 diary and found us just to get the dates for munmorah and coledale this year.... Hows that for Vintage van addiction Bloke showed us photos of a single wheeled trailer he has. Certainly unusual. I wheel mounted in what looks like a vespa front end under the middle of the trailer. Looks like vee dub nut has scored a metho cooker for the TD of a bloke that wanted to give it away. I think i had well over 200 people go through my van alone . Caught one bloke walking out with a book that i had on display. I stayed calm and just removed the book from his grasp ... bloody lucky i didnt remove his teeth from his head at the same time . Like we go out of our way to put on a great exhibit and let the public have a look at and in our vans and some goose trys that sorta crap. I put the chain across the door and spent the rest of the day apologising to the fair dinkum people who wanted to have a look around inside...... Mind you i did give a few "private" tours to a few good looking sorts that seemed keen to check out the sleeping arrangements ;D . Cobber had a bit of a "seniors moment" ( dementia for want of a better word) during the day but all turned out well. He proved my theory on " Anything that is missing/ lost" is not actually Lost/ missing/ stolen. It is where ya left it and ya just havent remembered where that spot is yet. Good ta see the lead ingot wasnt actually stolen old mate. might have only been a bit of lead but the family value and the history behind the thing is worth a great deal more eh!!! that idiot who picked up the book from my van proved that. I got the book ( Brair rabbit) for coming first in class 1960... a feat i never managed to accomplish again in all my years of schooling....... hmmmm ... should have baled out back then aye ;D Hundreds of cars, buses, trucks, motorbikes of all shapes and sizes filled the street both sides from down near the harbour up Hyde Park and beyond. Add to that 10 vintn vans with 10 classic cars full of the best people you would ever want to be associated with on this earth and it all added up to a bloody great Motorfest gathering and Australia Day. I think each and everyone of us went out of our way to make the public feel welcome at our vans and we certainly pushed/ plugged and promoted Marks www.vintagecaravans.com site. all day long. Thanks for creating such a great site Mark without it i would not have been part of such a great event as Motorfest 2007 I took a few happy snaps early in the day . will stick em on your computer glass later. Cheer all you sheilas and blokes out there. The Reddos.

Hi All Vintage Vanners,
As Reddo said we did indeed go to Motorfest with Alan & Jenny (The proud owners of Marvin) and a couple of other friends, who now may also be sold on the idea of an old van!!!! The disease spreads.
What an absolutely amazing display the group put on and it was interesting listening to the comments from people looking at the vans. All in all I think the vans are the draw card of the day - but then I am probably just a little bit biased.
It was great to catch up & have a chat with the crew, although we missed Belinda, Trodler and Vdub nut - too busy with the crowds of people asking them questions.
Displays like this one are fantastic for promoting the need to save all the old darlings that are stuck away in sheds, paddocks etc and the effort you guys go to to make the day such a success is brilliant.
Thanks for a great display and as usual a very friendly & warm welcome from a great bunch of people - see you at Munmorrah
Jude & Geoff

Motorfest 2007. Ditto what Reddo said. Around about 3.00 PM on the day Yvonne and I say “I want to go home, we’re not coming next year---it’s too long a day” The following day we’re saying “can’t wait for motorfest 2008” There are so many good moments to remember. The calm before the storm The way it was the rest of the day, for us and everybody else. Each and every van is unique and appeals to somebody in the crowd for different reasons. Cobber

Hi All, Well as a long time lurker on this forum (approx 18+ months - actually thought that i was registered and called "guest" for about 17 of those months ) ... and recent member (try searching for all your posts using the name guest ) ... i gotta say that Motorfest was just the absolute greatest day for my family ..... see, i have been wanting to get a v van for ages ... but mrs aussietanker just wouldn't have a bar of it ... "no musty old caravans that are gonna' fall over 3 minutes down the road" says she ... well, someone who shall remain nameless (you know who you are ;D ) suggested to "take her to motorfest - see the vans up close and personal") ... silly idea i thought, it will never work well, it did ;D ;D mrs aussietanker has been converted .... she came away very excited, telling me what features she really liked about each of the vans that she saw ...
she was also VERY taken by the enthusiasm and friendliness of all the group members .....
then.... when she started saying what colours she would like the van to be ... and how she wanted to match that to a tow car i just had to smile ;D ;D ;D
but instead i just said ... "wow, what a great idea darling - gee, i had never thought of that .... yes, good idea, i really like it - if that's what you want, lets just do it " ;D
i go hoping to talk her into getting a v'van ... and end up with (permission for ) both a van & car - magic
so thanks to everyone for the suggestions ... for the friendly encouragement ... and for answering a zillion questions ....
now i just gotta strike real quick while the kettle's boiling, if you know what i mean ..so now we are on the hunt for our first van - starting by going thru all the members folders just to get a better idea of what we really like, need and want - another brilliant suggestion from a regular forum member .... her main stipulation - small and round - already "renovated " - and needs to be able to squeeze in the two little tackers - altho at 4 & 8 yrs they don't take up to much space ... anyway - i don't want to take this thread off track ... but DID want to say a very big thanks to ALL the forum members ... it was a great event for the vans - and especially so due to the great contribution from the members that were able to attend ... and next year- van or no van - the aussietanker family will be dropping in again .... wouldn't miss it for quids ... see ya there ;D regards aussietanker

Dear fellow vintage vanners, Another great day it was indeed! I started early out of Hazelbrook at 5am a quick phone call from Bigdidda confirmed he was just ahead of me... I caught up to him within a few km's and saw him turning into "Bulls Camp" a well known *cough* uh ummm yeah nice spot to rest and visit the lavatory Seems he did'nt fasten the safety chain... On his propert that is Upon arriving everyone was set-up and we got a chance to have a quick chat with everyone before the crowds arrived... Lots of people, I could'nt believe the number of people looking at the Teardrop and my Volksie... Most questions were "Did you tow it here with the VW ?" Well ummm yes Was very easy to get to Macquarie St but, going home was a nightmare... The local constabulary sent us off in the opposite direction of the Blue Mountains... However with help of the Street Directory we found our way home from the big smoke ;D I had a gentleman from Sutherland offer me a metho stove which I will be picking-up asap and two offers to buy my Teardrop as well from other folk. Well as I said a great day but, next year I will give someone else a go and if I am not working Australia Day next year I will come down as a spectator. All the best Greg

Hi Greg,
If it is of any help to you,we can pick up the stove & give it to Bigdidda at Munmorrah - Sutherland is practically next door to us.
Let us know if we can be of any help.
Didn't get to say hi to you at Motorfest - you were swamped .
The rigs did look great on display
