Hello folks,
I'm sorry for skiting about my acceptance next year to the Motorfest but, if for any reason I cannot attend I will offer the entry to those who missed out.
Look forward to seeing you all again
Cheers

Mail today..nothing. But what a great bunch of self sacrificing mates I got you blokes are just the best giving up your spot at Motorfest just for me I don't deserve that Johny Howard, mateship is alive and well on this forum..you bet. JBJ, no way could I deprive you of the "Motorfest " experience, it's yours..you'll love it. Reddo mate, I'd hate to see you out there, loosing ya bate, getting sun burned or calling into pubs as you tour the country side with ya greasy scumbag motor cycle cohorts. You come to Motorfest and enjoy yourself. Greg, you've offered your spot to unfortunates a couple of times, your too generous, I couldn't accept it...no way. Anyway I don't care...they can stick their Motorfest Cobber.

Sorry to hear you have missed out this time Cobber,
I'll attend with the Teardrop at the upcoming Motorfest but, I'll step aside in 2008 and give you other guys a go. I'm already thinking of what the weather and the crowd annoying us all day will be like...
There will be better opportunities for us all to get together during 2007... We cannot camp the night on Macquarie St so it won't be anywhere near as fun as the likes of Coledale.
Cheers
Greg

Ok Cobber I am aware that i have to speak nicely to my elders but..... "Listen up ya bloody old wrinkley." I dont cop crap from no-one. Especially fossils....If i say you are going to Motorfest with the missus, FJ and the old '36 then thats exactly what ya gunna be doin ...alright The way i see it your car and van is the epitamy of what vintage vanning is all about. My car and van are both customised and although the crowd might appreciate them i feel that your car and van decked out with your collection of memrobilla would be the highlight of the exhibition and a real draw card for our website and cause. Ya gotta remember Its not a bloody car show... its about our vans and i hope thats what appeals to the people who turn up on the day. Struth Ruth.. Ya have been to just about every east coast run and display that has ever been held. People travel from everywhere to see the "J and driftwood". With the old 36 there we will get more people through the turnstiles than a boxing day test match at the MCG ( oooops we arent allowed to mention ball games here are we ) Why let some "shiney arsed office pleb" dictate who's in and who's out. So if i have to come down there and stuff the invitation down ya throat then so be it... I WILL ;D . As i said earlier i dont entirely believe that they have left you out this year. I would still give it until friday. If nothing has turned up by then I ask that you post a message on this thread or PM me and i will head for the post office straight away. No Bloody argueing .. all right you know how it upsets your ticker and i hate wasting my breath on stubborn pensioners. Tickos... i am sorry to hear about your delemma as well. perhaps i can photocopy all the acceptance info and forge a few signatures to get you into motorfest as well. I have a few friends in Long bay jail who are handy at that sorta stuff. hang in there. If all else fails i will make sure that Cobber has the billy on the boil in Macqaurie st. for you on Australia day morning. Reddo.... When was the last time ya sang the national anthem. get out on the front lawn in ya nighty or Pj's and do it now

Crikey Reddo, Your a bit of a worry sometimes mate. I hope everybody realizes, as I do, that your very rarely serious on this forum, which is the main reason it has a life, so don't spoil it Ok? You get your bum down to Motorfest.... so long as you give me all the leads you get to plywood caravans ;D Anyway, I think Motorfest sux Cobber,

Now Listen up there kiddies, Now i also rarely get serious (Its difficult when you are employed by the most incompetent railway in the known universe) but since i have been fortunate enough to get to go twice, next year i will go as a photo taking yob and will stand aside to let others have a chance. While we are on the subject of useless railways, if my staff office is unable to decide which hand to hold their you know whats with and do not allow me to have leave this year, i will pass on my acceptance to some other lucky vegemite. No arguments or corrospondence will be entered into regarding my decision and hopefully i will know just after New Year. Anyway those who do go will have the thought that all the others were there in spirit and it will be a highly successful day. See thats what happens when i get serious i am impossible to shut up.All the best for Christmas and a happy healthy and prosperous New Year to you all wherever you may be and thanks for the enjoyment you have given over the time by using this forum. don

Today, again no invitation in the mail for me. But yesterday I rang Stephen Knox and he confirmed that my application had been accepted and was "in the mail".
So Yippee ! Oh joy!... oh raptures! we will be there.
This is the best place to be on Australia day, an adoring crowd inspecting our beautiful Vintage Caravans....the pride of “Australia’s Touring Heritage”.
People casually mentioning that they know of a van “just like that one, been in a shed last 50 years, I think he wants $100 for it”
‘arold and Albert racing like mad to be the first one to see it. It’s the greatest, I wouldn’t miss Motorfest for quids.
Seriously...to those who were prepared to forgo their spot, and pull strings, so that ol'36 could make her debut at Motorfest, I thank you. That kind of generosity and mate-ship should make us all feel proud to be members of this great forum. It makes me feel proud and humble.
Tickos, have you heard from NRMA yet ?
Cobber.

hey cobber
that's a sudden change of tune!!!!!
just the other day you reckoned that they were all show-offs, who needed them, motorfest was just a waste of time, BUT NOW, HOW YOU'VE CHANGED.
good on ya' . you deserve to be there with ol'36 and even though we can't be in the show, we'll be at the show to have a look at ol'36 and the others and catch up with the (v.v.) 'groupies'

To quote yesterdays quote by and elderly vintage van statesman "MOTORFEST SUX" If by tomorrow afternoon you find that Stephen Knox fibs and they "DO SUCK" i would expect a phone call from you ... Mr fossil. The offer still stands old mate. Ok ... thats Cobber sorted now lets move on to Tickos. Hi The Tickos ... yes .. even you young Volvo driver . you lot stand to score a concellation acceptance. If by some stroke of luck NRMA keep thier word and Cobber DOES ACTUALLY RECIEVE HIS INVITATION ...i am offering you lot the same deal. I know the sums add up to 10 accepted entrys already but i feel a reddo "witchy" or " out of fatbody prediction" and it would not hurt you to ring stephen Knox and ask him the same question cobber did... ya get my drift . Something " Now listen'ere scumbag.. we sent our entry first and we wanna good explaination why the most famous people in the "gong" havent been accepted " If you get a "Tickos sux " I.e: not accepted ... then i expect you Woolongongites to give me a call. If ya dont . i will be highly disappointed and offended. Ok then . i am glad we all understand the rules.... here's hoping everything falls into place. Reddo... very, very sober and definitely serious for a change Cobber.

G’day Reddo & Vintage vaners one and all,
We have just returned from five and a bit days “outback” where I didn’t have access to a ‘puter....so have spent the last hour and a half catching up with all the postings. Reddo...when we got home ‘sarfo postie had been, but he didn’t bring nuffin from the NRMA, so I raced next door to see if they had picked anything outa the box last Friday.....nuffin, but I got faith, it will come, NRMA = Never Renege Mate.... Aussies. (took me an hour to think that one up ‘arold, sometimes I think you missed your calling...you might be able to pick up a bit of stray fluff after all, if you keep being so clever)
What do you all reckon about the bloke sailing that 1932 plywood boat “ Maluka” in the Sydney to Hobart race ?. He reckons the big fibreglass maxi yachts have lost the plot, so he is going back to basics ..just like (some of) us ;D
Good on him I say, I’ll be cheering him home for handicap honours...he might get to Hobart on Australia day. I might even re-name ol’ 36..... “MALUKA”.
Cobber.

Maluka isn't plywood, I forget what she is built from apart from not being a ply boat. I have an article on here here somewhere if it is important to anyone I will hunt it up. Incidentally she was named after (I think Cornelius) Gunn, from "We of the Never Never" fame.
Reddomeoldchum The boat that sank off Pt. Stephens was a 36' Stebercraft. The owner driver was charged and is or was doing time for culpable navigation, the victims were younger than teenagers and all located in the forard cabin. Greg

Thanks for that Greg. I remember the incident clearly . all partying. proud owner too proud ( and affected by alcohol) to admitt he was overloaded. everyone clammering up onto the flybridge while turning. pulled the boat over. Long protracted court case with plenty of Newcastle media exposure. Very sad event........ Suds and water dont mix. i have held a boat license and fished outside and on lake macqaurie for years. have seen some really foolish things happen with alcohol involved. Luckily the worst i experienced was when my drunken mate put the maggy back in the old blaxland putt putt on the wrong side of top dead centre. give the belt a heave and we took off backwards through a whole heap of spectator craft at carols by candleight ... speers point about 1988 or 90 from memory. Old timer launches are a hand full on full throttle flat out .. BACKWARDS. Never hit nothing and managed to swing into some clear water and shut the old girl down. 5 second fix and we where underway again... FORWARD . Reddoldseadog

Reddoldseadog Ya dont have to shut the old Blaxlands down, loosen the clamp, hit the kill button then turn the maggie around 1/4 turn from memory and lift the kill button and the engine will fire in the right direction. I was playing with em when I were a kid, me old man made em when e worked for Blaxland Rae.
About the Steber, the kids were below in the forward cabin with 11 adults on the flybridge, a whale was spotted, so all 11 rushed to one side of the flybridge to get a better look. The result was a tragedy of stupidy and ignorance.

Greg The name of the boat that sank was the NAGLUKA not the MALUKA.
I was aware of the quick fix with the maggy but i was up the front of the launch with the missus and the owner was at the tiller and wouldnt let me near the motor. As i said it only took about5 seconds to remedy the problem the way you mentioned. he wasnt aware of that at the time. even if he would have let me hit the kill button or stick my hand across the shlieber carb throat we woukld have stopped a lot earlier than we did.
He made his missus cart the maggy arouns in her handbag so that no-one woukld steal the boat while we where ashore in the park.
Cheers mate Reddo

Your right Greg Maluka isn’t ply. Apparently it is carvel planked using Huon pine, which is still in very good condition. They have covered that planking with fi*~e g*ass. Carvel = the planks are sitting edge on with the ribs holding it all together. The “restoration” was shown on ABC 2 in 6 episodes during November / December...that’s where the above information came from, you can also download the transcript & video of each episode starting @ www.abc.net.au/tv/australiawide/stories/s1780843.htmNot sure that I am so in love with her now...bodgie "restoration" Cobber.

Don't know who sent this thread down the wrong track...but I wish he wouldn't do it. Yesterday I had two position allocations for Motorfest arrive. One from the NRMA (that came in the afternoon) and one from a member of this forum (who shall remain nameless cause I suspect these things are non-transferable) who delivered it personally together with a three stud wheel for ol'36. The wheel fits Redtoe and I have a couple of 15" Goodyear tyres off the FJ in the shed (never chuck anything out) that will fit and make it perfect as a spare. Thanks old mate, your a bottler And your paper work is "in the mail" today, let me know if you don't get it and I'll give you mine Cobber.
