Applications came out today for next year's Sydney Motorfest. The closing date is November 11th (or earlier if all the spots fill).
If you would like to come and haven't got a form, contact Stephen Knox on 02 9416 7055.
The three vans on display last year were a big hit and the publicity led to a lot of extra people joining the forum. Let's make 2006 even bigger and better.

I haven't got the paper work yet Belinda but I will be there. I hope all those attending the Coledale bash, at least, will contact Stephen Knox and express their interest in attending the Motorfest. We will have to get in early because our cars and vans take up a lot of space and the NRMA will have to know we are keen. Cobber.

Hi Guys What date is the motorfest next year I dont want to pester Stephen Knox if the day falls on one of the bike club runs. Ok, Ok, I know , i know. Don't start preaching to me about priorities and vans are more important than vintage motorbikes. I love em both. They are great hobbies. One you have to pull along the road and the other you have to push along the road ( sometimes) Reddo

I spoke to Stephen Knox the other day and he was waiting for extra forms for Motorfest. If they arrive, he will post me some to hand out at Coledale.
He's keen to have the vans along again but it's important to get your application in ASAP. There are only a limited number of spots and Motorfest is a very popular event.

HI Belinda , My wife rang Stephen Knox for me today to get an entry form for motorfest . She was told that he was going send you a bundle , so , now that your working for the N.R.M.A , could you please save me one . Its just the best day , i wont be missing this one . If we get enough starters we will line one whole side of Maquarie St , what a sight , a show within a show. If we get the same spot as you all had last year that would be great , a prime possie ! See you at Coledale (only 4 more sleepies ) . Regards Maurie . p.s I hope you get your new uniform soon . ;D ;D ;D

Well Cobber I proved you wrong today. I posted my entry away for my spot in the madness and mayhem next Australia day.
I might have been a bit vague at Coledale but i think you can put that down the "Juice hangover" I wasn't thinkin too well .
I had time to think about it on the way home. Still on a high today so i got my shi.... ummm Act together and the job is done. I am sure there will be plenty signing up before November 11.
Something tells me we are gunna need something bigger than Macquarie street to accomodate us. We could always park up on the big steel coathanger over the Harbour. Reddo - True Blue
On ya Reddo, I knew a True Blue Dinky-di like you would want to be at the second best place there is to celebrate Australia day (the best place, as I remember it 15 years ago, was Tamworth). Did you mark on the form that you wanted to be with your club, which is “Vintagecaravans.com” ?
How many definites does that make Belinda, four only? More would be good. Cobber.

Hi Cob Yep. I got to the "what Club" bit and thought about it. God knows what car i will have by then and i am displaying the van anyway so i put "www.vintagecaravans.com" I am on the trail of an '55 Fj Van. Much modified but fairly stock looking on the outside. Wifey says i can do a redraw on the bank account but one or two of the bikes are gunna have to go or maybe the turbo landcruiser (diesel now $1.35/litre and i dont get away fishin' much nowadays anyway) to repay it asap.. She wants the FB to stay in the family. Smart girl my Trish. Shes a good old slogger ........ The car that is. Reddo - Just an old fart in a caravan park

I rang Stephen Knox today to confirm our application had been received.
Yes it has, and he also has forms from Maurie, Don, Cobber, Reddo and John - six vans, wow!
The vans will be in Macquarie Street once again. Confirmation letters and instructions are due out mid-December.

Hi Belinda Thanks for the update. 6 vans plus six tow cars !!! Certainly gunna take up our fair share of Macquarie Street. I was thinking ( here i go again .... another headache coming along) we could set up a period style BBQ ( metho, Kero or cleverly disgiused gas ) somewhere near the vans . Maybe even put up an annexe on the van using small concrete blocks to anchor the ropes to on the road and have a BBQ lunch for all the vintage van attendees. everyone bring their own meat and bread, drinks etc. etc. I will volunteer to do the cooking. trust me i am an old hand with the tongs and egg flip.
I have not been to the Motorfest before so i will leave it to you and Cobber to get back to me if this proposal is feasable. Just thought ( ouch ,,there it goes again) it would add to the atmosphere. caravanning, camping, BBQing. Might help people realise that we arent just a bunch of nutty fruit cake caravan restorers and we are into enjoying our vans, great outdoors and Oz lifestyle.
Gotta go and rest again now. This thinkin' capper is more painfull than childbirth!!!!! Reddo - jam and scones with red chequer table cloth optional.

Great idea Reddo But---I don’t think there would be much chance of Stephen Knox entertaining the idea at the spot we were in last year But---if the proposition was put to him pretty quick smart he might find us a spot where it was possible, there are some grassed areas down near the library, and of course there is always Hyde Park itself But, I was going to suggest Belinda ring Stephen and run it by him anyway But I thought I should do it myself, so I did He wishes it could be done, as some sort of star attraction, but it can’t. Hyde Park and the Botanical Gardens people are out. The NRMA have security people patrolling the venue all day, (you should have seen ‘em last year, there was a religious group who figured they had a captive audience so they started walking up and down beating a drum and singing hallelujah--not for long, they were very quickly given the message) ;D ;D But I can’t see anything wrong with us all getting together as a group and having jam and scones and a cuppa at some point durying the day But I tell you what, it is very hard to get away from our public, it is full on all day, just talking to people who want to talk about the old caravans Should be a great day. Cobber.

I hear what your sayin Cobber. If the BBQ is out . I might smuggle in a kilo or two of prawns. and a loaf of fresh bread. As for answering questions all day. I was thinking of setting up a motion sensor that trips off a running commentary on a tape player with a P.A speaker sorta like they have at the museums. Runs for about five minutes and gives everyone the speil on the van , then rewinds ready for the next person. Something like "Hello ....I was born in 1956. my name is the Roo van and i like Just Croozn. I belong to the handsome bloke in the deck chair with all the empty stubbies piled up around him. My wheel bearings need adjusting and i have dry rot under the beds. But he don't care.. I dont even have a proper shelter i just lay around the backyard with grass tickling my underbelly. Sometimes he goes away for weekends and leaves me at home with the kids. Look at him . The drunken sod. He is completely ignoring me. hhhhmmmmmmmppppphhhh. I am thinking of divorcing him...... would you like to take me away for a good time? Whirrrrr, click, whirrrr , click, rewind. " Hello my name is.the roo van .............. Waddya reckon am i on a winner here or what cobber.

Hi Will,
still can't log on. I'll SMS my email address to your phone.
The problem I've had with getting in touch with you is the time lag. In the morning when I seem to have a small amount of time it is always too early for you folks, and in the evening I run around like a mad thing and then go to bed when it's still early evening for you folks.

Hi Dennis
the only chance you'd have of squeezing in the van would be to ring the organizer and plead - Stephen Knox 02 9416 7055.
cheers

OOOOOOOO Bugger Jailbarcocktails Thats a bummer We could always ring him back and say " Hello , stephen you said you would book me in for "next year ..... meaning 2006 .... but obviuosly he is thinking 2007. .I just had another thought (Yep , you guessed it . It has given me a headache)..... if you are gunna be down here it would be a great chance to catch up with Belinda , cobber, Maurie and i forget who else. I will check with the Reddo clan, if no one wants to spend the day oggling vintage vans and rubbing shoulders with the elite of the east coast vintage van world you are more than welcome to ride shotgun in the FJ van if ya wanna. Trish loves the caravan but she doesnt like travelling all that much. My son Joel enjoys weekends away but he might not be interested in motorfest..... stay tuned to this station for updates and flood warnings............. Reddo ... : Cronulla riots ....Seen on a t shirt on telly news tonight "I grew here... they flew here"

Unfortunately, once you miss out on a spot at Motorfest you've missed out. When the event was moved from the Rocks to Hyde Park the number of places was strictly limited and lots of people miss out every year.
Vans might be a big drawcard, but it wouldn't make us popular with the rest of the car movement if anyone got to jump the queue.
Why not just come down and spend the day with us, and aim to be there with your van in 2007? In three years the event will have grown from one van to three to six, so we are going pretty well.
For the rest of us, I think we should nominate a time to lock the vans and walk away from them for an hour (we can leave notes saying "gone to club meeting"). That would at least let us have a cup of tea and a chat together. Last year all the spectators had a good time but the van owners had six hours of non-stop talking. Rob and I came home hot, dehydrated and with screaming headaches and we only got to chat with John, Lynelle, Bob and Yvonne via email afterwards.
cheers
Belinda
