G'Day All
Well I'm back from holidays. Only a week and a bit off work but had a good time fiddling with the van . Trish and I spent the weekend at a swap meet at Bathurst NSW which is about 4 Hours south west from our place.
While scratching around the hundreds of sites I came across a bloke standing with a toy tin caravan in his hand. Naturally I showed interest in it by virtually knocking him to the ground and wrestling him for it. Unfortunatley he had just parted with $5 to purchase it off the siteholder. It was a very good miniture copy of the two door van that is pictured somewhere on this site being promoted as that used by Bob and Dolly Dyer.
Both doors, roof hatches and windows all opened and closed. All up the toy was about 10" long. with double axle.
Big hearted me offered the bloke twice what he just paid for it but he kept a tight grip on it, so i gave up punching him. ...... Bugger. Turns out he owns a caravan repair shop, so I can understand why he showed interest in it.
Has anyone else come across tin toy vans? I grew up with all sorts of tin toys ( yeah, yeah I know ...Old bastard Reddo) but I don't ever remember seeing toy caravans. If I had seen one in a toy shop i would have bunged on a tantrum and held my breath , turned purple and stamped my feet until I got one. (Brat factor learnt from big sister)
Come to think of it ,thats wot I had to do to get my 10ft ply van..... somethings never change ;D ;D ;D

Hi Reddo I think your model caravan is the one that's now on ebay. 1 Bid @ $20 so far. The location is the Bathurst area. Ray

Hey Trev n Carrots Thank Christ for that .... I thought I was losing the plot . I had a look at the williams river photos and searched the shelves but couldn't spot any vans. Thanks to you pair I've got snot marks all over my computer screen from dragging my nose around doing close up scanning. The van from Bathurst looks similar to the one you have posted but has two doors and axles( i think it had two axles) plus a flatter roof. I haven't had a look at the one on ebay yet but its a pretty safe bet its the same one from the swap meet. Too much of a coincidence eh. Reddo

While we are talking model caravans I thought I would show off my model caravan, made by me myself, with my own hands & it is not tin, but fair dinkum plywood. As you can see (I hope) it is meant to be a replica of my rig. The FJ is a Trax 1:43 scale and the caravan was meant to be the same but due to circumstances beyond my control (i.e. talent) it is more like 1:39.5. It does have cupboards--seats--table etc. inside, and as you can see the door opens. My next project might be to build a 1:24 scale model to go with a 1:24 Trax FJ. Then again it might not be---my next project. Cobber.

Will & Lyn, Retro 1, trev and carrots. Real nice of you busy people to even acknowledge my little model , but it is another dimension to this hobby of ours eh? Everybody, in their spare time, should make a scale model of their pride and joy to put on the bedside table, then at night you can just lay there--looking and dreaming-- and drift off into peaceful slumber. ;D ;D Cobber.
