OK we have been found out We were at the Nowra show and told Murray about the Coledale weekend. It is great to see so much enthusiasm being spread around this great country of ours I"m just not sure if we can afford the petrol to get to Coledale (10 minutes from home) The run to Kiama Sounds good on Saturday. Also, if anyone is interested, the Holden Club we are involved in are taking over the Wollongong Holden Dealership on Sunday. It is usually a sight to see. We are travelling to Adelaide for the Bay to Birdwood run, with the Chev and Caravan before Coledale, so we should have some good stories to tell Tickos

I am going to book over the Weekend. Hope they take little dogs under control!!. I met this "little dog under control" the other day. One of the most ferociuos little blighters you would ever want to come across. Only stands 6'' tall but almost tore the door of Humptys landcruiser trying to get to me and the missus. Defensive little varmint. If it barks during the night i will give it a drink of jailbar juice and it will sleep for a fortnight. After that it will have a hangover that could last a month. Would make a nice fluffy pencil case for the kids!!!. Sorry Pete . Just kidding. I aint sharing my ice cream or my tucker with him. Reddo

Murray rang me to say the Caretaker at Coledale seemed to have his knickers in a knot when Murray booked his site because somebody had made a group booking for the 28/29th October on behalf of “The Sydney Caravan Club” . The caretaker didn’t know if he, or we, had got our dates wrong or if somebody from our club had made a group booking on the wrong date without telling the members . I rang him and it turns out “The Sydney Caravan Club” have been there before and he reckons some of their van are as big as the Opera house, I assured him it must be a different mob . He said he personally likes the little pink van that goes there occasionally (that’s Belinda & Rob’s), is he in for a treat come the 14th/15th/16th, or wot? Cobber.

Doggie sitter!!! Dunno about that Mr Humpty. You might be better off looking for a bloody Lion tamer. He's a pretty ballsy sorta (maltese???) terrier . Reminds me of a Guinea pig on steroids ;D If ya get stuck for a sitter ya can bring him to our place and our cat could give it a bit of a punch up then Bill can step into the ring and have him for a mixed grill or doggie Kabab After that we could go the fluffy pencil case option i mentioned earlier Reddo - Lover of all crittas great and small.

Hi We went to a Fifties Fair today (held at Rose Siedler's house Sydney) and picked up a info about your weekend away. We don't have a caravan but love the idea of having a vintage caravan (or an old Combi). We're keen - what is planned for the weekend ? Diane

Hi Di The East Coast get together was the brainchild of Belinda - long time forum member. Belinda and the family have had a weekend there last year and where so impressed with the location she suggested that all us vintage vanners should head down for a get together and put some faces to names and check out each others vans and tow cars. It is a sorta unwritten law that ya gotta have and older style of car to tow your van with ( although not absolutely necessary). Not everyone is into old cars and we dont want to discourage anyone from becoming part of the extended east coast and australia wide vintage van fraternity.
About 8 or so vintage vans are being towed to Coledale Caravan Park near woolongong on the weekend of 15/16 October. Some will be arriving Friday afternoon . Unhitch and cruize into Kiama on saturday for coffee, ice cream or whatever then back to the park for a BYO BBQ get together on saturday night . Your quite welcome to call in and have a look around. Always keen to encourage would be vintage vanners. Kombis are cool and i think there is someone on the site that actually tows a van with his Vee dub Kombi. Mind you i dont think it is a stock motor.
Anyway , looking forward to catchin up with you at Coledale. Keep your eye on the posts you might hear from Maurie about the 50s Fair. He was probably the one you where talking to at the Fair.
There ya go Cobber ... No bloody cat is gunna get my tongue!!!

Di, hi. Onya Reddo!
I knew with a bit of provocation Reddo would come good with the goods. If you are able to get to Coledale Diane come and introduce yourself and you will see what vintage caravans are all about, friendship and fun. Cobber.

Crew, Last week I saw the German made “Teardrop” van that Reddo mentioned on another thread. Have a look at :- www.thetab.com.au if you want to see it. I skited at length about the vintage caravan movement here in Australia and this web site, and mentioned our little gathering at Coledale in October. The dealer who had it on display is from Erina, N.S.W. (KENDY Caravan and Trailers) and he, without any prompting from me, offered to bring the Teardrop down to Coledale for us to have a look at. I told him he had a snowballs chance in hell of selling one but he said that was not his objective, he wanted to look at our old originals and show us what he had. The bed layout is interesting as is the construction--but it ain’t vintage, I don’t think there is much point in him coming all the way to Coledale, do you??? IS ANYBODY GOING TO COLEDALE INTERESTED IN HAVING A LOOK AT THIS VAN??? I have his phone number and will let him know what you think. Cobber.

Hi Cobber Why not let him turn up??? We can all party in it and spill red wine everywhere, tramp sand all through it, cook tea in it and burn the sausages to blacken the interior, have a few rounds of tag team wrestling and karate bouts, sleep in it and then tell him it is not exactly what we are looking for Although it would have that "Lived in Vintage Look" about it as he tows it back up the highway with bits and pieces falling off it . On a serious note ( is that possible??) I wouldn't mind having a geek at it . There probably is a market out there for these things. The PT Cruiser set ( No offence intended here Retro . You do have a beaut vintage van and the PT are cool ) would probably go for them and i think they would look great on the road together. Also might get a few nibbles from the hot rod fraternity. Although they would probably rather restore an old van to thier liking. See Chevy girl Debs and thier friends silver sunliner van with flames etc for a great example of the personal hot rodders touch. Reddo

I had a look at one of those T@B vans in Toowoomba recently. Lovely van, but they are NEW. Apparently they can travel down the autobahn at about 260kph Gre3at van for a love-in with their club lounge that converts to a bed!! ;D ;D ;D Ray

hey jailbardrink - I'm with you - I have 4 ol'holdens built pre 60's and 2 caravans from the 50's. But I do like any retro style as well - even if it is a new mini - it's better than the homogenous new stuff that all looks the same! I accept the way of thinking and the individual can make up his/her own mind.
Who from Qld is going to Coledale??

Hi All Was talking with Humpty 2 at Broke fair he mentioned that Coledale is under new management. Not sure if this will affect anything . Apparently the bookings have remained the same and i doubt if your site number would have changed once they are written into a booking register.. For the cost of a phone call It wouldn't hurt to ring and confirm your booking though!!! C'mon Earlee, you can do it. us NSWalers only beat up on QLD Rugby League supporters . We welcome canetoad vintage vanners with open traps (oooops ) i mean open arms Reddo

G'DAY GUYS & BABYDOLLS , I think you will find its only the caretaker that has changed at the caravan park . Dave the Irishman has gone back home to Dublin . His replacement is a gentleman named Norm, (good old Normie in his hot FJ Holden with his "twin chrome plated grease nipples") , so give him a ring if you have any concerns .(02) 4267 4302 . So as far as i know all is on track for October ! KIND REGARDS MAURIE . "KEEP HOLDEN ON" . p.s Welcome aboard Peter and Annette , can i please park next to that black beauty 48-215 of yours , some of its class might rub off on to my FJ ute ! ;D

G'DAY V'CERS , Spoke to Dave from Coledale Beach caravan park this week and he said we have 9 sites already booked for our weekend away. The list so far , site 10 - Maurie. site 11 - Glen. site 12 - Gary. site 13 - John and Lynelle. site 21 - Belinda. site 22 - Bob. site 23 - Mrs Magrin. site 25 - Peter. site 26 - John. I think the jump in numbers is because of the powered and un-powered sites . Hopefully we will still be in a straight line along the beach front . I'll be bring along Kate , my little Jeanie , (never ever say's "Yes Master") , shame ! Is everyone else bringing their partners ? Anyway lets see if we can crack it for 20 vans ! Anyone else interested , the phone no is (02) 4267 4302 . The price is $15.00 unpowered , and $20.00 powered , and its 15-16 October . Regards MAURIE . "KEEP HOLDEN ON" Had a bit of a scroll through the E.C.G posts and since the above update i can make out another 4 definite/ maybe starters. Murray Allcock with Hot rod and van. "Dianevuk" (Likes old vans and combis but hasn't confirmed if she is stayin overnight) Earlee - was asking if anyone up north heading down. Waddya doin Earlee??? The bloke from ERINA with the new teardrop ? If these 4 book in that will make 13 . 4 weeks today fellas. Can someone book the sunshine. its raining here at the moment. "buy sell and swap". I hate the look of those new adjustable poles so I advertised in the local rag for some original timber annex poles . Had a good response. Should have them painted up this weekend . Gunna do em barber shop red stripes ( just kiddin'). There ya go Wil , sorta fits in with your description of everyones individual touches . like DVDs, no junk mail stickers etc. Reddo

G'DAY BODGIEE'S & WHIDGEE'S ! Only four weeks till we check out eachother's (sniff, sniff ,sniff) butts, sorry, i mean caravans . Classic case of "I'LL SHOW YOU MINE IF YOU SHOW ME YOURS". Gee , i wonder who's got the biggest , and who's got the smallest ..... caravan ! All will be revealed in the showers , sorry , i mean camping ground , you know what i mean . ;D Anyway i know of two other starters to add to the list , Panda with his little ply (and 48-215 sedan ) from Sydney and Rob with his Sunliner ( and 'itsashiti magna sedan ) from the central coast . So i think that makes 15 V ' Vans to date . I was hopeing to crack it for 20 , we might just make it ! What a spectacular sight it should make all lined up along the beach front ! Look forward to meeting you all , KIND REGARDS , MAURIE . "KEEP HOLDEN ON " p.s Has anybody notified the local media/caravan magazine type people ? might be a good chance to promote our movement ! Cheers Big Ears .

Hi Reddo
yes, I'm still around. In fact the van is out and about as I type. Rob and our ten-year-old have taken it to Bundanoon (NSW Southern Highlands) for the weekend, where it is parked in the grounds of the Youth Hostel next to an immaculate 60's fibreglass van.
This the first trip in wet weather since the back windows were re-fitted and Rob reports they are now leak-free (still a few leaks around the top hatch though)
The solar trickle charger has kept the battery nice and healthy and the bayonet socket/high efficiency/12v globe is reportedly giving them excellent light.
The van has now been back on the road for just over twelve months and we're getting things down to a fine art.
See you at Coledale
cheers
Belinda

Latest news - The 48/FJ Holden Club are calling in for a coffee on Sunday morning so they can see us all. Obviously they have a keen interest in this vintage of everything and are very keen to see the vans in a mass display. Not sure which site we are on will check tomorrow- but remember Cobber, you said I could have your powered site. We are really looking forward to the weekend Panda
