G'Day Earlee Dont give up. A van will turn up if ya keep searchin. Don't feel too isolated. i live in Newcastle and there is no-one else on this list within a coupla hundred mile of here that i am aware of. Most of the early car clubs have members who also have old vans. or should that read most vintage caravanners have old cars so that might be a good place to make enquires. Just read the story and had a look at the pix from the run over in WA the other weekend. Lucky buggers !!! it doesnt take much to get the good times happening . A few people with a common interest , a bit of a camping trip away and a pub .......what more do ya need?? Do what Trev N carrots have suggested and run an Ad in the local paper. Qld is a big place, there is bound to be something out there. be prepared to travel a bit and do some good old fashion haggling when ya get there. Good luck Reddo

Hi Earlee. I live in Yarraman and have just bought a vintage van thru Ebay. I notice another one on there at the moment Look under Caravans & Trailers. Sounds a bit pricey, with a "buy it now" price of $3800, but it might give you some idea. I have to go to Victoria to pick mine up in the New Year. Feel free to email me direct on: rayandlee@bigpond.com
Regards
Ray

Hi Earlee I bought the Propert fold-up van on ebay recently. It's quite lightweight (approx 300kg), so doesn't need a big tow car. I have a Nissan XTrail, with which I also tow our 16ft Regal. We plan to use the Propert for 2 or 3 nights breaks, and continue using the Regal for a longer holidays. Whilst I love vintage vans, I'm not really into vintage cars, probably because I am nor mechanically minded. This will probably get me banned from the club!!!!. There is a little Teardrop for sale on Ebay at the moment (see link from retro1 in For Sale section), with starting bid at $2000. Hard to tell the condition from the photos, but might be worth a look, if you are after something small. Notice there are no bids for the bondwood van on ebay as well. Who knows, it might come back at a more realistic price. Might also be worth contacting the buyer after the auction. Register it under "watch this item" in your "my ebay"section and the file will stay there after the auction. Have a happy Christmas Ray

Hi Earlee, I am moving to Brisbane this month so there will be two of us up there, I have a couple of old Holdens and looking for old vans to tow with them so maybe when I get up there we could catch up and stir up some interest in the Vintage Caravan movement in the Sunshine State. Being a popular holiday destination there would have to be old vans sitting around up there! we will just have to seek them out! Cheers Matt (0431) 444-848

Have no idea what I am doing here but will give it a go... Hi guys. Yep I live in Brisbane and we have an early Sunliner fibreglass caravan - We are in the Eliminators hotrod club and 2 other members have Sunliner Caravans aswell. We have just finished doing our up and Deanno has just got his registered aswell. We also built a teardrop camper trailer from the ground up and have some great patterns and photos of the build. Another guy in our area has original plans for a 50's teardrop which I am sure he would love to share. We had our first outing in the van in November and then again on New Years Eve. What a blast !! I love it. give us a yell if you want to see the van in Brisbane (we are on the southside) Debbie 52chevygirl

Hi guys my first posting since becoming the ?proud owner of a very small, 1956 homebuilt bondwood van (photos to follow). It literally has the internal dimensions large enough to fit a standard double mattress on the floor - and no its not a dog trailer!! Be nice!!! It has been very well made by someone who knew what they were doing as it has stood the test of time, although obviously a couple of coats of paint since the 50's. It has some overhead shelves and cupboards which are also well designed. Has rectangular wooden-framed windows in door and opposite wall, but I think the ali window at the front replaced an original wooden one? The 'tailgate' lifts up way past horizontal and is fitted with props. Inside are a few shelves and a retro fitted power outlet for boiling the jug, or to plug in the teevee whilst you sit back and slurp down a few XXXX's. Yes another banana bender, and for those of you who haven't heard the joke "Why do Queenslanders call it XXXX?" A: "Beacause they can't spell BEER!". Anyway back to the van. The wheels have little mudguards which fit to the outside of the van ie no recessed arches. Accordingly, the van sits low to the ground and is very narrow. It weighs only 160kg all up and I can pull it around the yard one-handed. It tows very well and surprisingly hardly notice its there. This is ideal because I intend to tow it with my 1958 VW beetle which only sports an 1100cc, 36hp motor (if u hot rodders will even allow me to call it that!). Given the very small internal dimensions, I intend to put sail track around the top of the door-side wall and extend a canvas awning out for an area to sit/cook. It would be too hot to sit in in Qld anyway!! Any tips/warnings would be greatly appreciated. Will try to get some photos up soon, but it appears most have problems. Earlee - if you are still lookin - I live at Albany Creek so come over for a beer and a look at least. Ciao Mark

Trying to post some photos of my little van so hopefully it will work. I have decided that I have too many toys and consequently, despite loving the van, have decided to put it up for sale. If anyone is interested, send a reply email. I am asking $900 for a quick sale. Mark

Fantastic Suzann I hope you enjoy the teardrop they are great fun expect a lot of public interest you will have very little of the problems that conventional van owners have when towing they are light easy on the fuel and super easy to store and hitch -up Check the bearings the lights and the chassis where it bolts to the floor or sub frame if all is well then your ready for the road have fun and have a great 1st holiday with your teardrop What have you named her (It is a she isnt it?)Suzann ;D ;D Will

It is a she so we are called her "Miss Schultzy" for now, as that is what I get called because of my Feonce's nickname. Well that will do for now. We may call her "Bakersfield" yet. We have 2 weeks to figer that out. We have to strip all the paint of and re paint her first. Vintage cream and maroon.
