Hi everyone I'm a newbee to this forum, I live in Canberra ACT and I am a proud owner of a "Franklin Freeway Caravan". I was told when I bought it that it was a 1970 van, The gas stove has a plate on the back with the date of 09/66, so I then started to think my van could be either a '66 or '67. On the chassis is the # 1515-7 , I assumed the seven could represent the year of manufacture , these numbers represented something but not knowing what they really refered to. I found out today , when I took off some of the cladding, there staring me in the face on the inside lining written in texta the date 1-8-67 along with" N 1515". now I have the proof ( It is a '67 ). I've been a member of the "Classic Forum" for a while and have posted Photos of van in " Hall of Fame "under heading "help with franklin on page 2 and on page 1under "update on franklin" you can see photos of repairs so far . by for now ,must away and chase some more fungus and wood rot regards Colliwobbles

G day foxy and welcome to the forum. Glad to hear that you will be moving to the Vintage section as a result of your find!!! I am just outside Canberra and there are a couple of other forum members in ACT as well. Did you know the shannons wheels car/caravan show is on this weekend on lawns of old parliament house. Its on sunday. Bring your VV if you can and put it on display. There are no entry fees. Kenny koala, HarveyEH, myself and hopefully some other forum members will have our VVs there as well as other non members .So come along for a look and a yap. Harvey and I will be in red EH club shirts(our EH car club is running the show) so we should not be too hard to pick out. Just ask any ACT EH club member (all in red shirts)where I am if you can't find me. hope you can at least pop in for a look regards Jennison (Jeff)

Hi Jeff I;d lcve to bring the "Freeway" on sunday but unfortunately I have the side cladding off and in the middle of removing rotting timber and fugus. I hope to be able to come to the show and meet up with you, the only thing which may stop me is if the family has something arranged and have'nt told me. regards foxy

G'day Colliwobbles, Great to hear about the info you've discovered on your Franklin Freeway. It's little things like a date hidden away somewhere that give you a real kick. And nice to know that you have a genuine Vintage Van, not just a Classic!! (Before I get a ton of bricks landing on me - the last comment was meant in jest. I also appreciate Classic Caravans. Truly.) Would you like to post some pics of your van on this forum? We can go and have a look at the C C forum, but seeing your van is pre-1970 it would be good to have some photos here as well. Good luck with the work you are doing on it. Don Ricardo

Hi Everyone In response to Don Recardo's request I'd like to share with you photos of my " '67 Franklin Freeway ' caravan [ This van was sold to me and was registered as a 1970's van This was the fist lot of fungus I found Now that looks better. Notice bog in corner of shelf. whole shelf had to be replaced> Whole new shelf and back window posts had to be replaced. I used recycled timber for this. On chasing fungus and rotting timber I found that previous owner(s) had patched over in some areas,as per photo after taking of patchthis is what I found ,some timber had rotted away to dust replacing framework. Ready for replacing of cladding. I am at present working on the RHS facing the front where I am trying to rectify a bow along the side , once this done I will move onto the front corners where I'm sure I'll find the dreaded fungus and more rotting timber. Will update my progress as it happens. Regards Foxy
