Hi M/C
Think...... Your asking me to think.
Geeeeezzzz mate thats a big ask
Ahhhh wellll ... i suppose there is a first time for everything.
The way i see it most of the annual runs that vintage vanners all around Australia go on are pretty well established on each states calanders by now.
If we wanted to be pedantic we could find something wrong with every park we pulled up at.
The annual getogether at Coldelae is a good example . 5 or 6 powered sites and approx 48 vans heading there this year. Now i aint no mathematician ( or spella) but that adds up to around 42 or 43 unpowered sites . There is also only 2 mens and 2 womens hot showers. Some of the sites arent level. Most do not have water or a sallage pit to drain your sink to. WHAT :ono onsite shop to buy the paper or milk... godamn
But do i hear anyone whinging... NO WAY
.
People are willing to put up with a little inconvienience just to be part of this great weekend.
.
Same goes for Munmorah.. very basic facilitys but like mutton birds on migration we keep returning each year. All happy as pigs in poop. How many parks have you been to recently that allow open campfires...another dying luxury .
Most of the angxst that has been mentioned here has been to do with money grabbing ( deposits) and traveller / class of accomodation distinction
.
I feel there is an element of that no matter where we stay at.
Its just more blatant and noticeable in some areas that are popular tourist destinations
.
I spent a bit of time researching this years spring tour . I checked out the van parks on the web. spoke to the managers and also reported back to this forum with the names of the parks that i had chosen. I listened to feedback from those that are coming on the tour as well as comments from others who have stayed at the parks i had in mind. I feel i have done all i can to ensure that we are booked into decent parks this year.. (although i am dissapointed that not all are on the main rail network this year ;D)
One thing i would like to mention ..... Thank you to the managers of Governors Hill Caravan Park - Goulborn, Nelligen Van Park, RiverBreeze van Park - Moruya, Headland Caravan Park - Uladulla for not enforcing the 10 to 50% deposit on the 12 sites i have reserved.
It would have been a bit of a nightmare chasing people and organising payments either directly or via me.
So there ya go there is a lot of good park managers out there. Or is it just my "Gabbability" that persuaded them to let us pay on the day. I feel they arent entirely to blame for demanding high deposits, ect, etc. We would be better off vetting our anger on the Park OWNERS.. I.E: Local councils in some cases. The managers are the frontliners who cop the spray and venom of disgruntled travellers. .
Like any good trip away it all comes down to planning. Do a bit of homework before you head off and apart from the unpredictable weather, Unpredictable site neighbours, annoying insects, Trains. planes and automobiles ....... all should be sweet
.
Not sure if a "Good Park V Bad Park"thread is needed here but if you intend going anywhere just drop a post on here and i am sure someone will give you feedback on thier experiences in the area..
Can i stop thinking now
... Dont wanna use it all up before 4.00pm.
If i use my daily quota of thunkn' i will have no memory left to find my way to the pub t'sarvo
...... Hmmmm could probably find my way there by muttonbird instinct.
;D
