G'day All, This article shows just how versatile a Franklin caravan can be... ;D Horse and Drayton hit the roadJulie McNamara 28May07 Geelong Advertiser HORSE POWER: Lyle Drayton with his team of Clydesdales are off to Echuca. Photo: GLENN FERGUSON IT wasn't the exorbitant cost of fuel that spurred Lyle Drayton to choose horsepower to get him to Echuca. The Lara horse lover is fulfilling a long-time dream by using his three Clydesdales to tow his caravan 300kms to attend the Echuca Horse and Steam Rally on the Queen's Birthday long weekend. "I had a brain aneurism 18 months ago and I always said I wanted to do something like this before I cark it,'' Mr Drayton explained. Mr Drayton is being accompanied by three friends, Pete Eldridge, Robert May and Colin Jarvis, who are helping to carry feed and water for the horses. He said the unusual party had attracted significant interest from motorists. Mr Drayton said while the pace of 6-7km/h might be a touch slow for some, watching the scenery roll by from his converted Franklin caravan was magnificent. The horses will enjoy a week of rest once they arrive in Echuca before being put to work ploughing as part of rally festivities. Don't ya just love it? cheers, Al.
