Have also been doing more digging into the history of the Safetee company and I'm beginning to think they and Sportsman may have been the same company, at least at one time. Have a look at the two logos and you will see the word "Sports" is the same. Sportsman or minor by Katrina Parr, on Flickr
Hi Don, Trove only gives access to The Age up to 1954 that is why I think I missed the 1556 one you found, great investigating. At least we know the company were around in 1956 from more than one publication. Pity I still can't find dates going back the other way before 1950. MySafetee

Hmmm, interesting observation on the badges.
I have never heard of a connection between Safetee and Sportsman. They were operating in the same area and I have no doubt they would have known each other.
Perhaps Sportsman and Safetee used the same badge supplier and Sportsman allowed Safetee to use the "Sports" section of the existing badge and Safetee had the "Minor" badge made in the same style.
Do we know when Safetee started fitting the badges? If it was not until 1954 perhaps they bought leftover badges when Sportsman closed up and cut the "man" off, and then had the "Minor" badge made to suit.

Hi Mysafetee and Sportsman1,
The fact that the two brands of caravanette were being built within a few kilometers of to each other, and given that one company was ‘Sportsman Trailing Equipment’ and the other was ‘Safetee Trailing Units’, it does make one speculate, doesn’t it? Apart from anything else you’d think there would be a good chance that they were using the same badge maker, and that it would be pretty easy for the badge maker to modify the cast from one (Sportsman?) to make the other (Sports Minor?).
What we need is for a descendant of one - but preferably both - to turn up to give us some insight!
Hi Don, If someone from then, whether they be owner, descendant or even a worker from the Safetee company were to turn up I would find the answer to all my questions, that would be a dream come true... MtSafetee
Hi Sportsman 1, You have an interesting point. I have only found 3 adverts for the Sports Minor, two of them have a date on them which are from 1955 & 1956. The other is a pamphlet with no date. The advert from 1956 claims that Safetee are Australia’s only Caravanette specialists, as does the pamphlet for the “New Sports Minor”. This must be because Sportsman have now closed up and there is no longer any competition. So it could be that Safetee did use the leftover Sportsman badges and re badged them as sports minor to cash in on the sports name. MySafetee
