I think the proposed paintwork for your van is really great. I reckon it would look very striking...sorry about the pun...eyecatching...as it rolls along the road or is set up on site. If you can sort out any copyright issues, do it!!

I don't even mind what you're proposing for the roof. I think it just adds to the theme. At first sight it made me think of a matchbox (which is what you were intending) not a monster truck. Maybe if you do it edge to edge it would look less like a tyre track?

Keep working on it - it's worth doing to create something unique.

I love the design its a real piece of pop art and keeps the theam well. I also agree that the sides would be cool if you can use the right striker type paint the factory uses even if its just a small section where everyone would walk upto it and use he strike.

hi everyone, i know it's been a while (been busy with the car and the bub )
i found the old pic i was telling you guys about of the van behind my grandparents old holden, i've moved to a house now so it won't be long and i'll have the van relocated to my place so i can start working on it while waiting for parts (and good painting weather :

Great to hear from you again, and also that doing up your little van is still on the 'to do' list. We look forward to seeing some progress pics when it starts happening.

Since the original discussion on the forum about your van - and in particular about whether it was home or factory built - I have come across a few caravan ads from various manufacturers in the late 40's and early 50's which show small vans with no windows at either the back or the front. I think the vans of this type would have been the manufacturers' budget models, or built for small cars - fewer mod cons such as windows = lower cost and light weight. I can't lay my hands on them at the moment, but I am now guessing that your van could well have been factory built.

If I can find the adverts I'll point you to them.

You mention a bub. Is he/she another recent project? If so congratulations to all three of you.

thanks don, any info on hopefully identifying the van is always welcomed.
as for bub, she has just turned 1, had a few drama's with her (kimmy was flown down to john hunter hospital with toximia and had kira 10 weeks early) she's going great now, she was 1370 grams when she was born so that was a bit scary.

tow car is done ;D(well registered, are old cars ever "done"?) van has migrated to my place in port macquarie now so work is starting, very cool .

Awww how cute is your van - and all those little extra's stored away in there (kero lantern, retro canisters etc) will give it such an authentic touch! I also have seen this shape before on this forum...especially the palm tree stickers! Enjoy the resto cause that is half the fun!!!! not a lot has been happening to the van lately, cut out and replaced the rotten timber in the other side and finally actually measured how long it is. the body of the van is 9'3", i didn't think it was that small.
