Hello all, Well I've got my 59 Chesney to its new home a trip of 1 1/2 hours on its own wheels, towed well on its Olympic Air Ride tires. Brakes and bearings all checked out well, a bit of grease and a new hitch and on the road again, well almost. Ive started to sand her down and search for rot but apart from the rear end under the back window all is well, the cupboards still smell of old mothballs, no funky smells anywhere. The interior wiring is sound and all works. No lampshades at all, what style would have been popular then ? Ive heard that Chesney were bought out and disappeared in the 70's. I know of a 72 aluminum job but is that about the end of the line As I live in Linville Qld do I live near God "allmighty" ?? bye for now Dave P

Dave, new Chesney vans were still being advertised in the Sydney Morning Herald in November 1975, and possibly later years (the printing in the on-line advertisements is too small to read clearly after 1975). There is a Chesney van on ebay, item 280140781535, which the seller is guessing early 1980s, and looking at the cabin style I don't think he's too far off. So there could still be Chesneys around from at least the mid 70s if not later.
cheers, Al.

Hi, As I grew up in Victoria and South Australia my childhood memories of Vanning with family all revolve around Ally Viscounts Ambassadores Franklins and the like, I cant recall any but homebuilt style bondies so dating some I see is not easy. thanks for the Info
