Hi Ray, and everyone else. Ray, I did speak to Mark when I was in Perth and I also advised him of the visit of the person you refer to. I do not however know what if anything came of it. If you would like to point him to contact me, feel free to do so and I'll be happy to talk to him. Alternatively, you can post some contact details here, and anyone who wishes to compare products can do so.
As for Shannons, there is no need to wait for a response. Below is a copy of the letter I received today. Quite positive i thought (even if he did refer to us as a club on more than one occasion)
Hi VVs I have just insured my van with shannons As usual shannons were in town supporting a car event and i asked them to have alook at my van and ask for $8k coverage . no problem quote was sent promptly and when i asked about extreme limited use was told once of twice a month would be no worries. if i want to take it around OZ give them a call and should be able to sort something out. Cruz
Hi Ray & Chris, v v insurance is an issue I've opted out of up to date.
I have no business with Shannons, nor have I personally approached any insurer re vintage caravan insurance.
Ray, .....Chris did mention to me that the MD of MHIA would be in Perth, and I did say I'd be happy to talk to him. However I don't consider myself well qualified to discuss insurance matters.
The way I'm reading these posts, I can't see any issues with members having a choice of two V V insurers, competition is always healthy, particularly in insurance matters.
Ray, with your 25 years experience in Insurance, you would be better qualified to discuss with MHIA a V V insurance package, and put their offer to our members via this thread, as Chris has done with Shannons. As you say you've have already had initial discussions with the MD re packaging a policy. Please feel free to use this thread to detail any offer to our members, and our "club" ;D "vintagecaravans.com will support the outcome.
Thanks to you both for your efforts in this "delicate" area, and to Chris for taking the initiative on behalf of us all to find a suitable insurance solution.

Thanks for your efforts with regard to Shannons. ;D
This is what I understand from reading their letter.
At present, they will insure our vans but only as part of our car insurance.
To cover our van contents (other than fixed items i.e. fridge), we will also have to get a House and Contents Policy.
So thats 2 policies to cover one van?
Annex wasn't mentioned - it would be worth checking, whether the Annex would be covered or not under either policy. The reason I mention this is that our annex is listed separately on our current insurance.
I understand that Shannons will be reviewing the above so hopefully it will become more workable.
In our instance we don't have our cars insured with Shannons so no can do with the van insurance. We were with Shannons a few years ago, but found insurance elsewhere for more the 40% cheaper.
I will watch with interest to see what happens once Shannons review their policies.
In the meantime it would be great if we could have some additional info from other companies to do a comparison.
I am away this weekend, but next week I will contact our insurer and try to see what they come up with.
Hi all I actually spoke to Lumsley Special Vehicles regarding our current insurances with our 4 motor vehicles - in conversation I am sure they said they do vintage caravan insurance as well - I will be following that up soon & I will let you know how that goes. Also I have found Lumsley to be heaps better in all aspects with their motor insurance than Shannons & cheaper as well.
:)So Were is all this going Shannos are inconsistent in there policy's every one gets a different answer and nothing get solved So Is any one Any Company going to get there $hit together and give use a policy that supports this following OR are we to keep taking BLIND Faith in what they tell use and wait till the inevitable happens and Then find out what we have covered Some of use spend all we have(not much in bringing up family ) in restoring or fixing up our vans to be stuffed around in the end by policy fine print ME for one Would like this HIT on the head and solved , Can NOT Afford to be stuffed around My VIEW and sick of inconsistence
SUCCESS!!!!! I just got off phone with Roy from Shannons Canberra office. The pathfinder is insured for $10,000 at a cost of $117. With discounts for the other policies I have it is further reduced to approx $92. Well done Shannons . Jennison
Gents you are both correct. Obviously Shannons see FF as a greater risk to them ;D
FF I guess you'd have to move in with Jennison, grow older or younger, increase your policies and only go out when he does, then maybe they'll match the deal.
Oh, and they're a business with profit margins, maybe they fiddled the price to appeal to Jennison. Whichever way you look at it, both those policies are cheap in my book, better than being told to go away...
Whether an outcome from this thread has worked or not, I've just insured "Madonna" with Shannons and this is a copy of the section from their policy in black & white (and green)........
The one thing I did have to do was advise them that the van is currently being used as intended ;D ;D ;D ;D, so consequently the premium was higher. Similarly, I discovered that the FC was insured for "Limited Use" and by being honest, the premium has increased......better to be safe than sorry when dealing with any insurance company.
