As promised a couple of weeks ago, some pics of the 1964 Harris caravan: I like the shape of the 12 footer Harris Van ......and the colour coding outlined with metal strips I like the wheel arch profile And .......I also like the "split" rear window design I don't like PVC piping hanging off old caravans, this will be removed asap (and the annexe poles will roll around on caravan floor ;D) Very "seventy-ish" ali window covers will also probably be removed .......... I like neat ali surrounds around the external hardware: exterior light power inlet (the power outlet fitted next to it looks ordinary water inlet and the original (NOT) "Xpelair" is very unattractive Yay ......the original Electrolux keeps the beer nice & cold ;D I don't what happened to the original upholstery at the rear of the van is my inflatuence that bad ;D ;D don't like the pony curtains either .....would much prefer geece curtains ;D The HD's towbar tounge needs "hot rodding" ....... chopped & loweredto suit the Harris Van Mark

Hi Mark,
Great pics of a great van. Some really nice touches there - the little covers over the light, the power inlet, etc... And the HD looks like it's made for the Harris in terms of the colour match.
It's hard to believe that the window covers are a later add-on, based on the colour anyway. Has the stripe on the van been repainted to match the covers (or vice versa)?
I can tell you what happened to the rear seat covers - they were recovered in the early 80's!! Our 80's seat covers look very similar!
A great addition to the collection, and in excellent nick!

Nice van MrT, mght be able to help with clearance lights if you need spares, also have a couple of new Bakelite power inlet points if you decide to lose that flip up thing that's on there now. If you hunt around you should be able to find a towbar tongue with a drop in it to suit the Hold-on, cheers, Col. Hi Col, You mentioned 'new Bakelite power inlet points'. Are these readily available, and if so what do they look like? Would they fit in/over the place where a 'flip up thing' has been installed? Any info you can provide would be welcome. (Sorry for this momentary diversion on your thread, Mark.) Regards, Don Ricardo

Mark, my 9 year old daughter is Horsey mad, those curtains would look great in her Cubby House When I got the Hawthorn there were a coupla extra old seat/mattresses and from memory they are the same as the original ones you are missing in your van. I will check in the daylight because you are welcome to them if they are the same. Cheers, Trish. P.S. Love the tow car

Hi Dudes.
Dont wanna do kaybee out of a sale or 2, but the original bakelite inlets are only rated at 10amp and are totally unprotected from the weather unless the inlet is mounted on the door side of your van. In which case it will be protected by your annexe ( if you are lucky enough to have one) in wet weather.
All van parks now require you to have 15 amp inlets and double pole earth leakage circuit breakers. The topic is covered elsewhere on the forum so i wont rant on about it.
I have got away with the old 10amp jobby on Matilda up until now but i have replaced the old bakelite 10amp inlet on Mildred with the new horrible looking plastic 15amp with flap arrangement. I will paint it the same colour as the van so it doesnt stand out like a pimple of a bum.
I suppose they are a bit like tow couplings. some of the old things on our vans do benefit from safety upgrades to later model fittings.

Nice van Mark, and very well matched to the HD. One thought on the tow hitch, can you turn the tongue upside down? As for electrics, I recently discovered that you can buy 10 amp earth leakage / overload circuit breakers that plug into your power point, not a bad 'quick safety upgrade' for older vans. Especially if you use the old style toaster and jug like I do. Cheers, Gristy

in my posts above, I stated that until I came accross my 12 footer Harrisvan, I'd never heard of them ....... I stand corrected ......Brad & Gem reminded me last week that they did have a Harrisvan, and yes, I had previously been told about the van, but never saw it ........ But, I guess Brad & Gem weren't to keen on their Harrisvan ......here's what they did to it ;D ;D ;D They only bought the wreck to use the chassis for their pending teardrop project .......... I hope they kept the "Harrisvan" badge Mark
