We have had our little 10 foot caravan for about 15 + years now. We get a lot of comments but do not know much about it’s history. Can you look at our (hopefully) photo and advise if anyone can tell us how old she would be. The registration papers say 1980 Atlantic caravan (this date would have been when it was probably re-registered). We bought the van from an older gent who bought it from a traveling shoe saleman years before. Outside is aluminium, Inside has had original cooking/sink taken out and replaced with a bench only kitchen area, has double bed/table at back end and single table at front (which we converted to bunk beds to holiday with our children who are now grown (now we use the front as storage area). Still has original old ice chest and timber cupboard doors. Any info would be appreciated, especially if you may know rough age or make of our van (if Atlantic is correct name). By the way, very impressed with your site/forum. Your site looks cool and it’s great to see people interested in the older vans with so much more character.

Hi iamgreen There is a few people on this site that have Atlantic vans." MRFJ55" with hois vamn "Doris" and "Belinda" with her pink and grey Atlantic but both thier vans are made entirely of Bondwood ( plywood) and are earlier models than what your van appears to be. Yours might be late 60s if it has all aluminium sides etc. It has a few things in common with the earlier Atlantics. That is double front windows and only 10 foot long. You might find pixs of both vans if you search on "Members Photo Album" or go back to "Runs and events" and find Coledale 2005, 2006, or 2007. Both vans have been at this event for those 3 years. Hang in there someone will come back with some answers for you. Reddo

Hi Iamgreen, Welcome to the V V forum. Neat little van you have there. Are the walls fully aluminium or has it been partly cladded at some stage? Apart from the information Reddo has suggested, you might also like to look at the Atlantic thread in the 'Down History Lane' section, which provides some info on the history of Atlantic caravans and also provides a list of people on the forum who own Atlantics: vintagecaravans.proboards30.com/index.cgi?board=chat&action=display&thread=1196489993Regards, Don Ricardo

Hi Iamgreen, sometimes the presence of aluminium cladding can be a trick!! If you have some spare time, have a look at all the photos of the first Quest van in this thread (in the Down History Lane section)... vintagecaravans.proboards30.com/index.cgi?board=chat&action=display&thread=1196246359...where the original ply was discovered under the aluminium. Maybe your van is a sheep in wolf's clothing (so to speak). cheers, Al.

Thanks for the replies guys, It is the first time since owning our van that we have decided to do a bit of investigation into it's history (as we are thinking of giving it a new coat of paint and tidy up soon), we come across your site and are now thinking a bit more seriously about this whole V V thing - it all looks like sooo much fun and all so interesting. When we bought the van it was purchased mainly because of it's light weight (being 380kg unladen). Looks like we might need to make a bit of effort to get around and see some of these great v vans
