Hi Don Well done on becoming the new moderator ;D and well done to whoever it was that decided to put the new section on the forum. I know from various discussions I had had with members and also from the postings that were put up a while back that this is needed. In the UK several of the original founders of the caravan companies are no longer with us, but thankfully someone had the insight to record the valuable knowledge and information that they held in their heads. By attacking the subject in this way the responsibility of compiling the information does not lay with anyone individual - something that I am sure no one person could deal with. There must be so much that needs to get logged down. Fantastic idea, good for you ;D Cornish Lass

Hi Don, and congratulations on your new position. The new section will certainly be of great value to anyone trying to get detail about their beloved van. And it will lessen the amount of work I've been doing (over the last few months) of extracting useful information out of the hundreds of posts on this forum . I have a couple of specific questions: 1) We are still only relating to pre-1970 vans/information in this section? I presume yes, but the guidelines aren't clear on that. 2) Can we copy and paste info already elsewhere on the forum into this section, and get the moderators to ditch it from the other section? (eg Franklin history) 3) Can you arrange the threads alphabetically and make Franklin stuff "AAA-Franklin" so it stays at the top of the list, where it rightfully belongs ;D ;D . Yes, I'm kidding. 4) Do you already have grey hair, ...or are you hoping to get it? ;D Onya Don, cheers, Al.

Thanks everyone.
Hopefully, the 'Down History Lane' section will achieve its purpose. It all depends on those who contribute. As Cornish Lass commented:
By attacking the subject in this way the responsibility of compiling the information does not lay with anyone individual - something that I am sure no one person could deal with.
Al has already raised some questions which I will need to think about, and get back to you about.
The only point he made which I can give you an immediate answer about is: "Can you arrange the threads alphabetically and make Franklin stuff "AAA-Franklin" so it stays at the top of the list, where it rightfully belongs." Let me think...no! ;D ;D ;D (It's alright he was joking.)
Looking forward to your travels down history lane,
Don Ricardo

Hi Don Congrats on your new position. "History Lane" is long overdue on this forum.
Searching for info on our vans is a nightmare. Not just here on the forum but in archives, newspapers and the likes of kieth winser books etc. Some of us have vans that where produced in very limited numbers and a lot of the early van builders could not afford to advertise/ promote or even put a badge or signwriting on thier products. There is probably hundreds of "One Offs" out there that will never make the "History Lane" pages but i reckon if someone has the complete history of a van ( perhaps built by dad, grandad etc) that was built pre 1970 , then they need to let you/us know about it. The original builder would have liked that.
I watch with interest.
Reddo.... 1 11ft Fairway Bondwood van( QLD company-1952 to mid 60s from what i can make out) 1 X reddo TD totally not vintage and a one off Fugly van.. builder deceased.
