Hi All Scratching around here while the ladies of the house are watching some junk on the tele so I thought i would share with you some photos of my '37 Chev. while I polish off a couple of Turkeys. The first photo is of the car 'as found' in a shearing shed near Cooma in 1989. The car was 'restored' by an employee of the Canadian Embassy who spent a lot of money on cosmetic things like paint and upholstery but had done nothing mechanically. Everything was stuffed including a ice cracked block, no synchros in the gearbox and worn out diff. plus no brakes and half a turn of play in the steering. This suited me as I hate painting but am an ex mechanic so love doing the mechanical bits. This photo does not really do justic to the colour which is really an original gold (Golden Beryl) which is quite rare to see. It looks too yellow in the photo. The steering box is unique to 1937 Chev. Masters so I had some problems locating a new pitman arm as mine was worn out. American ones are no good due to LH drive. Went to Bendigo Swap and found a new one still in the box and paid $70 after a bit of haggling but I would have paid anything - obviously didn't know what he had. It is still on the original 6 volt electrical system - no need to change as it works just fine but causes some headaches swapping trailers with the modern car on 12V. LED lights will work on both voltages so could be the way to go. It has been a good car and will look even better with the teardrop following along behind. How about a few more postings on your tow car Ken

Hey Ken ;D My thoughts on "Will The Wicked Gnome from the West " and the Bambino xtra towcar are as follows..... Would look cool with a big 4 poster roo bar with a 'kenworth" sticker on the lexan bonnet bug deflector heading across the Nullabour with Will behind the steering wheel sitting on three cushions so he can see over the dash, and 3 of his little concrete mates propped up inside ,all wearing black bolle wrap around sunnys sharing a few longnecks along the way . On the towball we could have one of those old cane wicker prams with hood .. sorta like a cane teardrop with tansad co. coil springs on each corner and dunlop solid white rubber tyre running on 8 spoked Cyclops 8" wheels.. Plenty of room in the pram for 4 of them to stretch out of a night under the stars. Only downside would be that the concrete chappys would have to put up with the big ones flatulence and snoring. I have one of their ceramic freeloading squatter cousins living down the backyard in my 1953 fairway bondwood matilda van. He was given to me at Coledale as a momento of Will and Lynns visit to the east coast last year ( as if i need reminding : . The little bugger has eaten everything out of my cupboards ( not all the poo i find in my van food cupboards is mouse poo ) and polished off the last half gallon of my Jailbarjuice that was given to me by JBJ when he was running his illegal still a few years back . I liken the scene of 4 of them heading east in the Bambino to the national disaster we have with the Qld canetoads making thier steady invasive march southward into NSW. We know they are gunna turn up on our doorstep in plague proportions sooner or later ( later would suit me just fine) and there is bugger all we can do about it ;D ;D Take my tip. If you get a call from the CSIRO asking for money to further thier research into "Gnome eradication"( especially the west coast mutations)... hand them your pay packet...no.. wait.. give em your bank card details. i assure you it will be an investment in a vermin free future for Australia and will pay dividends in the long run. your grandchildren will love you for it. Reddonotfeedgnomes. Just an "East coast dribbler" keeping the goodWILL and banter paths open between both sides of OZ

Hi Ken,
Love '37 Chev's as I've got 3x '37 Chev Model GC 1/2 ton trucks in my shed ( original not restored).
Did you have any trouble finding a grill??.. seem to be as rare as hens teeth in complete usable condition. Some blokes make their own and others have imported some from the USA ( repros ) but cost is very expensive.
Terry.

Hi All Seems like there are some nice cars out there - even nice to see some Fords that haven't rusted away yet. ;D ;D Hey Will, 1 Bambino and one R series don't equal 1 X 37 Chev. so I will hang onto it for a while thanks mate Nice Studebaker Kaybe, i guess that is the V8 so should have ample power to tow just about anything (if you can keep the fuel up to it) I always liked those Studebakers and have one on my shopping list - if my memory serves me correctly there was a model with a supercharger as an option. fbmad - my grill came from South America. They are expensive but there is not really a choice if you want your car to look OK. My grill is not a 100% fit but hey only I would notice. The main problem is that the centre bar is not as wide as the original so the crank hole cover will not fit. You can order hot rod grills that don't have the crank hole cover - stainless if you want. The above pictures are of the 36 Chev. Roadster that I sold a while ago - still have a soft spot for it. Had calls from overseas when I advertised it and a guy paid for it sight unseen, guess I sold it too cheap. Ken

Well at least KB3 stays true to the thread, both cars have something attached to the towbar. ;D Night son Ken, good thread to start, it is always interesting to see the wide variety of vehicles used to tow our VV'S around. Don't forget that anyone can do the same as Ken and start a thread to show their cars, we all need a tow vehicle, lets see what you have. Kris.

This is the 36 I mentioned, It would make a great car For years this 37 was in a old shed and definitely not for sale, a while back I found out from the local scrap guy that they were picking up the cars as scrap. I did the quickest drive to Cockatoo ever to find they had bulldozed all the cars into a pile This was taken moments before a 30 ton Kato squashed about 15 cars into a bin seeya Well ,spoke to soon, was on track,he took a turn somewhere. Hey, at least I got to try out my new powers. ;D ;D Kris.
