Hello everyone. I have purchased a 1978? Holiday equipment trailblazer pop top camper. It is in good condition for its age. But i need help in relation to replacing the cable lift system cables. I cannot work it out. There are four pulleys each side, two each end, and a central winder going from one side to other. When lifting in process the beds either end slide out of ends. There were no cable in place to copy refitting. Could anyone please help with information on correct cable replacement method instructions? Thanks.

Hi Peter, The Trailblazer used clothesline wire (true!) that centralised on the winder handle and went out to each corner ,when you put the wire on you will get an idea how it works from underneath. Can’t remember how many metres you need. Hope this helps Cheers hughdeany

Hi Hughdeany. Thanks for reply.I have attempted to recable.Went from top pulley stop on top roller down around bottom pulley, through guides down to the winding bar. on winding bar there is a hole each side of a plate, went through one side and out other and continued to bottom roller other end. up to top roller and tied off again. did same both sides. The problem i encountered was that, whether turning handle clockwise or anti clockwise made all for corners want to lift. Do you know how to make system lower as well?.I have camper in erect position thinking when i lower , the extra cable will wrap around shaft till down. Cant understand???Any help would be much appreciated. Then again to lower by cable it must depend on weight to let it down. What do you think. Thanks for you time. CHEERS!

Hi again Peter, I can remember it was very hard to wind up and a bit wobbly due to beds and roof all happening at once!Winding down was also clunky and I can’t remember if there was a lock on it to stop it all dropping! It’s actually a really simple easy camper, but my mind has gone a bit fuzzy over the years about the actual workings, sorry I can’t be more help. Cheers hughdeany

Hi again. i reckon i know how to replace lifting cable. But when winding cable, it just wants to unravel again into a messy wire ball around shaft. If yourself or anyone could help, it would be fantastic! Thanks Hughdeany.

Hi Peter, Are the roof and beds all going at once when you wind up? That’s how it’s supposed to anyway, sorry I can’t remember how it used to go.Are you in Melbourne? I’m on the Mornington Peneisula and if you’re not too far I could come and have a look and maybe jog my memeory! Cheers hughdeany

Hi Hughdeany. Thank you for your very kind offer of having a look at van for me ,but i live in Shepparton, victoria. I cant lift van up or down yet. Trying to re cable system to give it a go. It seems easy task, but got me stumped. Each side has to have enough wire to lift up and down. But recoil problem of wire rope has got me confused about correct method. If worst comes to worst i will have to get pro caravan man in to fix. I do not know about you but if i, with friends cant work it out i am disappointed. From old stock in life. Just me.Have a good one! CHEERS.

Hi again Peter, I have had a memory jog!I think you wind the cable on from both directions,so you need 3 people,2 to hold each end and you to wind both bits of cable onto the rod in opposite directions. I hope you understand what I mean and that you haven’t been doing it that way already! Cheers hughdeany
