Free to a good home: 1964 3.6 m four-berth marine-ply caravan, with gas fridge & stove, and hydraulic override brakes.
The time has come for my family to part with our beloved homebuilt. It has immense sentimental value, and my brother had planned to take it on, but his circumstances have changed.
Hence, plan B is now taking place. I am offering it free to a good home, rather than selling on eBay or Gumgtree. This group has members with the right spirit and ability to undertake a sympathetic restoration, for static display or rallying use.
The caravan was built by my mother, and featured in the eulogies at her funeral. I am the executor for the estate.
It was last towed in the 1980s, but has been kept under cover ever since as a home office, spare bedroom, and store room.
Unlike some of the restorations which are shown in this group, essential work is more cosmetic than structural. The marine ply sides have held up well. One or two floorboards in the doorway need replacing.
With a little bit of maintenance, the van should be trailable to its new home: currently in Balwyn (Melbourne, Vic.). The wheels are FJ Holden, with matching bearings (needing new grease). I guess that the seals in the braking system could need renewing, and top up the fluid. The tyres seem to have held up well.
For a longer trail, it would be wise to go to a friendly base, for a bit more work first.
Just three photos today. I have taken closeup views of most of the detail.
Front: settee cum 3/4 double bed. Doorway and cupboard opposite the galley, which has gas fridge and a stove with two burners and a griller.
Rear: dinette cum full double bed.
Collection has to be at the end of September into October, after I have cleared the furniture from the garage.
Process: send a pm expressing interest, and I will reply with an email for further exchange of information and photos. If the message system gives trouble, I will just have to put the email up by editing this post.
Photos of the caravan in use are in this thread:
