Evening all,
Towards the end of January, I received an interesting PM from a new forum member Steve83 telling me about his Overland caravan:
Hi how are you? I've been looking at all the available info on overland caravans on this forum... I have one very similar to the one posted by smiles but think later model! What's left of interior looks to be the same but I have a bay style window and front of van looks completely different to anything in any articles.
Trying to work out getting photos up as I'm a new member.
If you have any info on overland I would love to try find model of my van.
Thanks for your time
Steve
After making contact with Steve83, he sent me some photos of his van which I am posting on his behalf:
Note the horizontal stripe effect in the wrap around windows.
This van is certainly different to any other Overlands we've seen. The rear section looks similar to the late 50's Overlands, but the front section has a number of the features of a typical early 60's caravan, in particular the flatter front, the bulkhead over the front windows and the wrap around front windows. Overland used a bay window arrangement on some of their late 50's vans, but this is definitely a different, more 60's style. From all of this, I'm thinking that Steve83's van is probably early 60's, somewhere between 1960 and 1963. We don't actually know when Overland stopped production, but it appears that they may have continued for a while longer than we previously thought.
Steve83's van has been used as a market stall, and he is in the process of restoring it:
No serial number has been found but there's a VIN been stamped on the drawbar:
The remnants of some newspapers found in the van during Steve83's work:
A very intriguing find. Thanks to Steve for sharing the photos of his van. Hopefully he'll tell us a bit more about himself and tell us about the restoration as it proceeds.
