Hi Tracey, Your van looks to be possibly home made, that was originally wooden or silver aluminium but been re clad in white aluminium in the sixties or seventies, the windows don’t fit the date of the van.Would have to see more pics of front, inside and A frame to be sure. Cheers hughdeany

INSIDE 1 by Tracey Mor, on Flickr Home made - wouldn't that be something special. I am asking because I was about to take it to the weigh bridge to get it weighed as part of blue slip and I think I need to have a model?

Hi again Tracey, yes the photos are showing up! The van does look home made, lots of solid framing, and I would say the aluminium is an addition at a later date. You can tell the rego office it’s home made and they should go with that, much better than them guessing it’s a Viscount or Franklin which happens often! But I’m not so sure an empty shell can be registered,it’s going to put axle wheel and spring ratings out if you fill it up with furniture and then get blue slipped at some stage because the loaded weight will be your registered empty weight, plus whatever you build in plus load. Maybe someone else on here that has done the same might let you know what’s involved. Cheers hughdeany

Thank you so very much. I love all things home made. Now my dilemma is this... I am not supposed to have any caravans at the moment and I actually have 2... the homemade one and a Franklin - (not sure of the year) will attach photo as I'm an expert at attaching photos. Please give me your opinion - to do up homemade one from "as is" above photos or to tidy up Franklin? Caravan keeper 1 by Tracey Mor, on Flickr Less work and less creative room? Could anyone identify the Franklins year? Thanks Tracey

Hi Tracey, IMO it’s a no brainer,do up the Franklin Regent, very collectible! Twocutekelpies is in the process of rebuilding a later version of this, fantastic reference for you as it’s a sandwich panel walls, not good if you don’t know what you’re doing.😳 Have a look at her pics and see what you think.BTW,this one is about 1970-71,the prefix on the chassis number will tell us the year. Cheers hughdeany

Hi Onegooddeed,
I think I’m with Hughdeany - I’d focus on the Regent. Maybe do the other van once you’ve got the experience with the Regent under your belt.
If you can tell us the serial number on the drawbar of the Regent, we can confirm the build year for you.
I’m presuming there’s no serial number on the drawbar of the van we are suggesting is homemade?

Re Registration. I'm in Qld & when our Walden was finished (Painted) on the outside with modest interior I took the van to the inspection center. Within controversy rained, because it had been out of rego for years with out numbers of any kind.
The drawbar had been replaced so it looked as though I had to cough for an engineers certificate. I told the lady in attendance that I was loath to try an engineer as parts of the rusted chassis (although repaired & treated) were still visible & he would probably condemn the whole project ?
She made one last call & the advice was "if it looks fine & he has a roadworthy certificate, register it as a Homemade" Phew !!!
