Hi Harold, It doesn’t look like any Wayfarer I’ve ever seen, even the shape is not quite right, and the only thing on the inside that’s looks close is the overhead sliding cupboards. If you compare the exterior shape with a factory Wayfarer you will see there are a lot of differences,eg where the tail meets the chassis is squared off,the front roll is the wrong shape and the front bottom roll is the wrong shape. It might be a very good home made copy, which was quite common back in the day.The chassis number is more than likely a generic number put on a chassis bought over the counter for the home builder to build whatever he wanted on.😉 Cheers hughdeany

Thanks Hugh and Don,
Well it looks like this is a home made Van, I'd have to say whoever built it did a very professional job in its construction. As you both say it has too many variations from other Wayfarers for it to be one. I seem to be good at picking the unusual with the Prattline still waiting for work.
Best regards

Hi Harold,
That serial number could be a Wayfarer serial number, and there is nothing about it that suggests any other origin (different manufacturers used different formats for their serial numbers), but my feeling (like Hughdeany's) is that there are too many differences between your van and the Wayfarers.
Your van may have been home built as Hughdeany suggested was possible, but that also may not be the case. To my mind, the fact that the van has a serial number indicates that it was commercially manufactured, although as Hughdeany says the van might have just been home built on a commercially manufactured chassis.
However, I note that your van is registered in South Australia, and if that has always been the case, then another possibility is that it was built by one of the smaller South Australian manufacturers. There were quite a few of them that we know virtually nothing about at this point, except that they did exist. So if your van has always "lived" in South Australia, then perhaps that's the answer. Do you know enough about its history to be able to tell us about the registration?
