Hello all, newbie member here. I am wanting to buy a vintage 50’ 60’s van but don’t have much technical knowledge about what I should look out for. ie: braking systems, chassis, ease of towing. I hope I can learn something here before buying. For example, I really like this van but the owners don’t know much about it and I am not sure of the pitfalls in buying something like this. Any advice would be really appreciated. regards Annie

Sorry, I just found the technical advice page. I’ll do some reading. In the meantime any thoughts about which brand caravan this would be?

Hi Annabelle, Welcome to the possible life of vintage caravans. The van pictured looks like it has been restored, strange that the owners are not more knowledgeable ?
Ideally any van should be sold with a roadworthy, be registered, if there is gas have a gas certificate, tires that are under 7x years old.
I would seek the help of someone that has some building knowledge (if buying a wooden van) to view possible purchases, rot is the biggest problem. Also damp/dusky smells, or overpowering perfume disguising odors.
Check on your tow vehicle, be aware of the weights it can handle. Your mechanic can help you there.
Keep reading there is a wealth of knowledge here. Good Luck Mustang
