Hi all, Could anyone recommend an electrician down this way to help me with wiring my whole van? It's an old 10 foot bondwood I've been slowly working on, and I need to wire before I put the new external ply on the walls. 90% of the old wiring was removed before I got hold of it so it's virtually start from scratch. The electrical stuff is not exactly my strong suit, so I need advice as to what put in etc. I've tried to research 12 and 240 volts and inverters etc. but I'm going round in circles a bit and not confident with getting it right. Ideally I could help with running wires etc and purchase batteries etc ahead of time. Thanks, Davo

Before you invest a significant sum into a leccy usually $100 an hour, I have gained a lot of support from Collyn Rivers caravan books. Here12v is not dangerous , but you may prefer a qualified guy on 240v. When you find a guy ask for a quote & what you need to do with running cables around the van, some prefer conduit, others not if you are using quality cable. Generally you keep the 240 cable & the 12v someway apart, you could save hundreds by doing a lot of the lug work yourself. A suitable guy may be able to keep an eye on you & simply perform the technical connections. I have cabled 3 x vans with no previous experience. Good renovating Mustang

Thanks Mustang, I shall have a look at the book.
I was hoping someone knew someone around here who could, as you say, keep an eye on me while I do the lug work, so the bill doesn't get too extreme. I am a complete beginner when it come to electricals.
eg. a mate recently suggested I don't bother with an inverter and run the 240 volt to a couple of power points (for toaster etc. when available) and a battery charger. So most stuff is 12 volts running off the battery and solar when there's no 240. It seems reasonable to me, but what do I know. I don't envision the little van doing too many major camping trips.
Making decisions is by far the hardest part of renovating this caravan, lol.
Cheers Davo

LED globes draw little from the battery. Also have a look at Lithium, so light & superior in performance to lead batteries. Lithium link

Thanks Mustang, appreciate the help. I'll take a look at the Lithium batteries.
