Hi Guys, Looking for this style of spring hinge name/supplier etc. Most of the Google searches don't produce a bracket/hinge that will give the height needed for a hatch These are the original finger crushers, they look good , but don't work very well. Its difficult to gain enough pressure, then the hatch will flop from one end to the other unless I secure it with a bolt,

Hi Mustang, The top spring loaded supports are drop leaf table supports,I bought some from Bunnings a few years ago and I think they still have them. Cheers hughdeany

I think Mustang is after the lower picture? The top pic are drop leaf table supports. Bottom is some sort of marine cabin latch.

I looked at the drop leaf supports at Bunnings, they only had 3x damaged packets & the hinges going rusty, so I've decided to keep the originals & manufacture some larger wingnuts. Cheers

G'day mustang, Your fittings are known as "quadrant stays". I increased the tension applied by the wingnuts, by fitting leather washers to either side of the bolt in the slides. This means less force required to get suitable tightness.
My hatch is super heavy and will always flop either way front or back, when I lift all quadrant stays up to their full height. I've ended up raising only one end to take advantage of, or to protect from, the prevailing wind.
The advantage I've found with these type of stays is that I can partly lift any one of the four sides of the hatch. This has been useful in strong wind/rain.
Cheers, Al.

Hi Al, As you suggested I went for larger wing nuts with larger washers, also inserted a copper pipe into the frame, so a S/S rounded bolt could be inserted, to prevent the hatch falling backwards or forwards, I can now lift it successfully for 4x seasons or front or back. BEFORE: AFTER: To keep the units original to a 1/4", I drilled out the large wingnuts & inserted 1/4" nuts, then set with JB Cold Weld, can't believe the holding difference.
