Bought our first caravan, Roxy the Regent!
1969 Franklin Regent 18' 6" Single-axel Chassis number 1459-9
Had been looking around for a couple of months and fell in love with an advertised "1975 Franklin Regent" that had been up for sale for over a year on Gumtree! Everything looked good from the photos and had an informative description, unsure why it had not been sold yet, advertised at $5100. Had some difficultly getting in contact with the seller/owner as they had some family emergency but we waited patiently cause we knew it was the one. Suddenly the ad disappeared after waiting what felt like a very long week... after rejecting some other caravan opportunities in the hope to get Roxy as we began further investigation in Franklin Regents (thanks a lot to this forum <3 ). We made contact again with the seller only to find out the ad expired, phew.
We travelled a 300km return trip into the Mt Baw Baw region to go see the caravan and it was everything and more of what we were hoping to see! As we were talking to the seller, Jo, she kept mentioning Roxy which we had thought was the caravan's name. It was in fact her daughter's name who had been helping advertise the caravan! Anyway the name has stuck now
The listing was advertised with all the lights working and they said they had been checked however it's always good to check before you make a purchase, however when we plugged into into or Holden VE ute we got nothing... So we thought hmm let's test this on their car and no problems only 1 light was out due to missing globe! No idea what was wrong however we decided to take the change made an offer ended up purchasing at $5000 with a free cast iron BBQ! Everything else seem suitable to tow with so we went home that night and came back the next day with our permit and soon were on our way. We noticed the lights started working about 30mins into our trip hooray! It drove well all the 150km back home had to stop a couple of times to tape the windows down due to broken window stay locks.
A couple of things we noticed once we got back, GM disc brakes had been installed in early 2000s however disc have surface dust and cold so presumably not working... Also looked up how to date tyres and they are either from 1999 or 89!
I wrote a whole lot more but I click publish without being logged in and lost everything (remember to copy onto word doc!) will make some more post updates later on, enjoy some first pics for now
