Hello, Chassis No 6390 Info under the table 6390 date 14/12/67 Not in good condition time to fix Flo up will see how we go. water damage around hatch & all four corners. will start at the top so Flo doesn't have a hatch and I need to build a new one.Q 1 I am guessing the hatch lid is the same size as the internal section & sits on top with what was once rubber foam. Q 2 I have one section of the hinge setup the front piece attached to the winder. Is the second one the same size as the first as i think it would be. The Front piece is slightly larger than 1/4 " steel rod so would fold-up second one to the same dimensions I made up a cover for the hatch that sits over the whole of the old hatch if you understand what I mean. I folded a piece of old aluminium sheet off an old van over the top, down the sides and nailed it underneath so thought I could use that on the new hatch lid hoping it will be slightly smaller Q 3 how high is the lid section. I think it is probably rectangular with a ply top covered with aluminium sheet, so if some kind person can let me know its overall hight I can work with that. Just hope I don't give up on finishing the reno. I'm retired so plenty of time . Anyone with similar vintage between bottom of Yorke & Adelaide that I may have a look at please.

Hi Buddy, I've got the same year van, mine isn't wind up it pushes up on a scissor type arrangement I'm pretty sure hatch is all metal without a ply centre. It's painted white If you give me a call next Saturday after lunch ( I should be home from work by then) I'll go and measure and photo whatever you want I'm in Sydney Regard Alex 0407 293 205

Don't seem to be able to get more than 1 photo at a time, 2nd pic is winder 3rd pic is what I think fits to the hatch & 1st pic is where the missing (I think) hinge/arm fits & then would connect to the hatch seen a photo somewhere but can't find it now may have been on wife's facebook (viscount page) winder is a bit rusty at the moment but will be easy to get off & drop into kero wash down for a soak. Thankyou for replying Alex is this the same as you have ?

I have a '73 Ambassador with a wind up hatch, which may be the same size. My hatch measures 1125mm long x 812mm wide x 40mm high, the lip is tightly folded over and the corners were welded. This is from when I first got her, you can see two arms Top after clean up Underneath after clean up and replacing the ply, I thought I had other photos but this was the only one as I was putting it back in, I couldn't pull the arms in so had to resort to straps As you can see, I painted all the parts. There is a foam weather strip all around the edge. I also took the frame off the roof and resealed and added a deflector to prevent the hatch being ripped off during travel. The deflector is just a bit of aluminium angle with the corners rounded off and riveted in place with sealant. You can just see the hatch frame underneath so there's quite an overhang. Hope this helps

Thankyou twocutekelpies Your info will be very helpful. I like the deflector will put one on I think. mine won't look as fancy as yours from the outside as it will be covered with aluminium I'll seal it with sikaflex. On another note I have seen where you speculate that the date stamp on some internal fittings is not the build date I would agree with that. I have a date stamp in the drawer under the wardrobe around 4-5 weeks earlier than the date under the table. I have an old mate who was a cabinet maker and he would have done his apprenticeship in the mid 60s so I'll catch up with him and have a yarn about it. Thankyou again

Bit of wood should help with insulation I think. My problem is I have no idea what it should look like but twocutekelpies has been a great help. I will start stripping the inside of ours over the next few days I will need to gat a new chassis made old one is very rusty & unfortunately not much is salvageable inside so a lot of work in front of me. Cheers I thank you for your offer and I will more than likely need more info as I progress Gordon
