Thanks Hughdeany Do you mean draw the shape and then cut it out. Say 12mm ply and then round the outer edge with a router?

Yes,and buy some slot head screws and cup washers. Use gloss paint and do a few coats,I am doing exactly the same on an old bondwood at present. Cheers hughdeany

Hughdeany is correct, the original spats were very weak and not many have survived. I made some from marine ply as per the photo for our 69 Franklin. Best to try to make the correct shape if you can. Koala
