Friend is transferring rego of 11 footer within Victoria addresses tomorrow but paper work has it down as 'yellow trailer '. The van is currently in Tasmania. Could the colour be changed upon transfer and then will sort out the trailer/van classification if transferred to Tas rego ? Are small caravans classified as Trailers in Vic ? Thanks in advance for any responses

Hi Murray, I just checked the Victorian registration papers on our 3 caravans. Each has the words. —- Don Caravan (, which is 12ft,) Franklin Caravan( which Is 14ft )and Southern Cross Caravan. (which is 18ft ) No mention of the word trailer but in saying that the fees are similar to a trailer. Our 30 foot bus/motorhome was classed as a caravan/trailer but the rego was same as a car. I can’t see why colour should come into it at any stage.

it is possible to register trailers & caravans that are under 750kg without taking it in for inspection. I have 2 vans that meet these specs & I have just pulled out their papers. My Propert is listed as a Proper Trailr. (the missing T is obviously a mistake on VicRoads part) & my Globe is listed as Motor Vehicle- 1958 Globe Caravan Fee Code TV Private Trailer. So it is possible that your friends van is registered as a trailer only. May be legitimate but may also be a bit dodgy. Do you know the weight of it at all?
