I have a fridge that I don't want any more that you are welcome to have for free. It was taken out of a 1969 Franklin Premier and was working when removed. Dimensions are 535mm wide, 730mm high and 535mm deep. Model is Morphy Richards Astral C200D. This is a gas only fridge. Pickup only from Mt Tamborine, Queensland. Photos below. Hi rob , long shot is fridge still available just bought a Franklin would love to install in her. Thanks just let me know we are in Labrador Just adding my two bobs worth. If you are going to put a "new" fridge in your caravan, and are not that fussed about having an era-specific fridge then may I suggest you put in a 12v compressor fridge rather than a 3 way (gas/12v/240v) fridge. That way you do not need gas, or 240 volts. The fridge is more efficient than an 3 way fridge, especially in a hot area. They are also more efficient in respect to power usage. In a caravan park when you hook up to 240 volt you can use a 12v battery charger to keep the battery charged, and when travelling you can use the car - through the Anderson plug- to charge the battery, and while free camping solar will keep the battery charged. When restoring our last van I put in a 12v compressor fridge in, 12v deep cycle battery charged by car, solar, and 240 battery charger. Michael.

Where would i buy a compressor fridge to replace a elec/gas/12 volt fridge out of an old van? Michael posted some info regarding this & ive only just found this site today, Sun Aug 9th 2020 so im a bit behind the 8ball. Im trying to set up an Olympic van about 1990 for a mate & we dont know how to set up water to sink or anything so we're both pretty useless at vans but he IS a good roofer & does know how to work at everything else haha. When he gets back here i'll ask to have a look in van for compliance plate info. Also im in my 50s & looking for a fairly small van I'd be able to tow behind a Challenger 4wd. Keep safe out there. Hugs from Tweed NSW

Hugs from Tweed NSW History. Absorbtion fridges were developed in the 1800s but the first fridge developed for home use was in 1913 - for example - the old kero fridge. The compressor fridge for home use was developed in 1923 by Fridgeair. At this time caravans were using ice boxes and did so for many years. Absorbtion fridges became popular in the 60s as they were used in caravans, but of course at this time every household fridge was a compressor fridge. It is only in the past few years that 12v compressor fridges have become popular because their development has run parallel to solar cell development. With today's technology you can charge your deep cell batteries with your solar cells and these batteries can run a 12v compressor fridge for days. With solar and a 12v battery the 12v will run all your lights and accessories (we have a 12v TV) The only thing you need gas or 240v ( but not both) is for cooking and hot water heating. In our caravan the gas is used only for the hot water system. The cooking is done on a kerosene stove. In respect to putting a 12v fridge into your caravan, many caravan suppliers have fridges of different sizes, as they did (and still do ) have of absorbtion fridges. So, back to my original post, if you are going to replace your fridge may I suggest that you put in a 12v fridge and solar panels on the roof. However, if all the gas lines, and wiring are set up for a 12/240v/gas fridge then it may be easier to replace same with same. See the link below about the advantages and disadvantages of both. The difference between the two. bushman.com.au/buying-guides/lpg-absorption-vs-dc-compressor/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIw4DtyOiM6wIVi6mWCh1pAw1GEAAYASAAEgJI3fD_BwEThey can be bought at. www.caravansplus.com.au/appliances/fridges/12-volt/And finally, if you have an old van with an icebox, there is also a solution for that. You can build a fridge inside the ice box, by using components supplied by www.novakool.com/products/BuildingYourownCoolerofFreeer.htmAs can be seen here vintagecaravans.proboards.com/thread/13769/1940s-bondwood-caravan-originally-postedMichael.
