I recently bought a Carapark 12/9, I intend to rebuild/renovate, however I will not be abe to start working on it until the weather turns again (I'm from Tasmania with lots of wet/cold months) amd my garage is too low to store it so I'm looking at cover opptions, I would like something I can use long term (each winter/when not in use). Commercial caravan covers seem to be minimum sizes of 16ft or 12ft for pop-tops. I need something that breaths so it doesn't sweat etc. Does anyone know of anything or any options?

I think you'll find that proper caravan covers do breathe, but check with the sellers. Some years ago I used a temporary woven tarp on a Superb I owned, but it scrubbed the paint off on the top rounded corners of the van, so watch out for chafing (not that it matters before you start your restoration) and find something that is soft inside.

can I make a 16ft one work or do I need to get one custom made?

You can easily buy smaller ones on ebay or similar although it doesn't matter if you use a bigger one. It's the reverse that is the problem! (trying to stretch a small one over a bigger van).
There can be problems using a caravan cover, one of those being damp forming inside it. They really are only a temporary measure & better dust protectors than weather. The cheaper ones such as those from Aldi will disintegrate over time too. The best thing you can do for your van is park it under a solid roof, I know this often isn't an option but that should be your long term goal. A friend of mine who beautifully restored a bondwood caravan has had to keep it outside as he moved house. It's paint has started to peel & it will have to be re-done.
Cheers, SGTL

hopefully in the future I will be able to store it properly, but first I will make sure it won't deterioate further until I can make a start on it. thank you for your advice

I had a friend who has a little Toyota campervan. She bought a $120(??) 6 metre carport from Supercheap and I extended the legs with star pickets to extend the height, for her to park the van under cover without touching the vehicle. Seems to be working, the last time I saw it.

I bought a C@mec that was stored under a large carport, I only wanted to keep the sun off, it went to pieces in a year, there is no substitute for quality if you are in the open.

I purchased an Aldi caravan cover. It was waterproof and breathable. It kept the van dry for 3 years. It was still going strong when I sold the van and gave the cover to the new owners.
