Hello all, I have been thinking for a while that we need an annual event in glorious Gippsland, Victoria. Other than the Rosedale Vintage Festival and the Rosebud Foreshore Rockfest, there doesn't appear to be much happening in eastern Vic, or maybe I'm just not in the loop? Does the idea of a Gippsland gathering appeal to you? Perhaps in the spring and somewhere close-ish to Melbourne for convenience. I originally considered Inverloch but the Foreshore caravan park fees are ridiculous and it's not pet friendly. Rawson Caravan Park and nearby Walhalla might be nice. I'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions. Cheers, Lisa

I don't live down that way any more, but used to. The Korumburra Caravan Park is a nice park and the town is so central to a lot of places. It has an undercover fireplace area and is dog friendly. www.korumburratouristpark.com.au/

It's funny you say that Roehm3108 because the Korumburra caravan park is down the end of my street about 10 minutes walk from home lol. It's a lovely park and Korumburra is in the midsts of a commercial resurgence with lots of great shops opening and great vintage & farmers markets nearby. Definitely an option

Hi Lisa, couldn't agree with you more, everything is on the other side of town for me, i'm in Berwick. Years ago we had runs to Cowes , Blairgowrie, Glenn Cromie, Cora Lynn etc, no one this side of town organises runs these days so i partner my brother in law on our own runs. Would be interested in a run to the east later in the year. Dave

Very Interested as well. We are attending Rosedale later this month. There is a Vintage Caravan Event being planned for September in Deniliquin, so hopefully, if yours goes ahead, the dates dont clash. The more we can attend, the happier we are. In fact we are heading to Goolwa SA in May to camp up with some VV.

Hi Glamper - great idea As a Leongatha boy, I always like returning to that part of the world - Bert and Florence would love an excuse for an outing and we have plans to hit Kongwak in the coming weeks - Kongwak market a must visit if you are in the area on a w/e. our personal favs around or round abouts Gippy closer than the Lakes are Glen Cromie ( North of Warragul ) and Walkerville Sth - secluded on the beach near Venus Bay/Warratah Bay keep an eye on Deni and Halls Gap dates - Oct may be an option ? As a Leongatha Boy I'm not sure I can fully support Korumburra !!! ( how do you say Korumburra ?π) but it is close to Melb, central to other attractions - like Coal Creek ( haha ) and Leongatha doesn't have a caravan park to speak of ....It does have a butter factory however...... Unless you want to go all unpowered at Mossvale Park - which would be great but not practical....
We will keep watching......

We would be interested in attending. Powlett River & Kilcunda maybe be options worth considering but the later, with fantastic vistas, is exposed to the weather. Corinella had a nice little cp overlooking Westernport but I'm not sure if it's still operating. Cape Paterson cp is a great spot. Walkerville Nth is one of our favorites. Cheers, Arthur & Helen

It all sounds great seeing as I live in Drouin, EXCEPT, that I'm going away caravanning to WA, from mid May until November. (Be back for the Grampians W/E). Can we have Gippy in the New Year? Or I'll have to wait until next years spring. lol. I do hope it goes ahead just the same. Cheers Ralph.

Thanks Graeme, this is the trip I was planning last year, we spoke about it at Winton Vic. I wasn't able to make it, as Laraine had to have 2 major Brain surgeries, so that put an end to that. I've been 24 hour full time carer. This year it's going to happen. I'll keep in touch with you later in the year. Cheers Ralph.

Wow, what a great response! I'm excited Obviously there is a need, so with that in mind the next step is to determine When & Where! When: If we exclude Dec/Jan (silly season) and the winter months (chilly season) and any month with an established vv event in Vic then we are left with October! (Sorry Ralph) Where: Waratah Bay or Walkerville are great options for beach & bush and both pet friendly but a little isolated if you're looking for other things to do. Cape Patterson is also a great option (no pets due to the local wildlife) but it's central to Wonthaggi with it's great variety of vintage/secondhand shops, Inverloch with it's beach and cruisey cafe scene, Kongwak's awesome little Sunday vintage market, and Korumburra with it's cafes, pubs, brewery & eclectic mix of shop... not to mention the awesome residents . Powlett River (Kilcunda) is dog friendly option not too far from Cape Patterson & surrounds as well as the beautiful George Bass Coastal Walk. I'm leaning towards Cape Patterson. ps Bert66 - No camping at Mossvale anymore and no one knows how to pronounce Korumburra that's why we all call it The Burra!

I would definitely be keen for something Gippsland based.
As a suggestion, Paradise Valley Caravan Park is quite central in Gippsland so could be good for those coming from Melbourne or Canberra? The owners are lovely, it's pet friendly and there's some attractions nearby. I love your suggestions @lazy Glamper - Korumburra would be lovely.

I'll make it my mission to do some location scouting over autumn/winter to check out a few options. I doubt bookings will be an issue in October. I also think it would be a great idea to choose a different location each year so we can explore & experience everything this beautiful region has to offer.

It occurred to me that camping in Gippsland in October would be much more pleasant with a campfire to toast our frosted tootsies so with that in mind I've narrowed it down to either Glen Cromie or Korumburra for our first Gippsland Gathering. glencromie.com.au/www.korumburratouristpark.com.au/Personally, I think a vintage van event would be a great drawcard for my little town of Korumburra and there's plenty to do in town (cafes & brewery) and in within a 15-20 minute drive (vintage markets). Any weekend in October works for me but let me know if there's a weekend that works best for you and we'll try to work with it. What's your druthers? Cheers, Lisa

May I suggest late August, or early November. Only reason I ask is that you have the long weekend, then Bathurst, then Shellharbour - which usually happens two weekends after the October Long Weekend. HOWEVER As I type this I began to think that the October Long Weekend could be a good weekend to have it. SO. In conclusion may I suggest the October Long Weekend. Tooley

Hi Glamper - we are currently at Cape Paterson which is a nice site, good weather and one early suggestion but a bit exposed and no fires or dogs so more than happy with the choice of The Burra ( did I really just write thatπ ) Like Glen Cromie too but more limited options around - great 'nature'CP.
Not sure if we will be around early Oct so later better for us but up to you as its your call. Thanks for keeping this going.
This extended w/e have done Loch, Wonthaggi, Cowes and Kongwak - vintage shops, markets and Op shops - plenty on offer in Sth Gippy.
PS. Coal Creek free entry now days! That makes me laugh and there is of course the Gatha just up the road. Go Parrots!

Touleyau - No long weekend in October in Vic (only NSW,ACT,SA) but thanks for the heads-up re Bathurst (12-13 Oct). As there is another event (Halls Gap) in early Nov I'm suggesting either 19-20 or 26-27 Oct. Bert66 - Sounds like a great trip. If I'd know you were at Kongwak I would've dropped in. I hope you can bring yourself to let sleeping dogs lie and enjoy a weekend in Korumburra - come on, you know you want to! As a relative newbie to the area, I don't subscribe to the Burra-Gatha rivalry other than to say "we are the best, chuck out the rest" Seriously though, the idea of camping 5 minutes from home is a little strange but I think the location in relation to what's on offer in the area is spot on. Anyway, if all goes well and we decide to continue with this event in the future, dates and locations can be changed to suit. I'm also thinking a Feb/March event at Wilson's Prom would be great - but that's a whole other conversation. *** It's just occurred to me that Coal Creek Historic Park has an epic Halloween event Sat 28th Oct which could be a good thing or a bad thing... not sure how that effects the availability of camping spots as it draws a large crowd. coalcreekcommunityparkandmuseum.com/halloween/

Hi Glamper, we are in, Korumburra sounds great. Im hoping for the weekend of 18/19/20 Oct. We are going across to Meningie in late Oct for the SA Vintage Van weekend over Cup Day, those dates would give us a bit of a break between two good events, not forgetting the follow on from Meningie being Halls Gap.
