Hi All.
My Dad has recently passed away, and he has a 1974 (I believe) Viscount. Anyway to confirm age? It has been in a shed every since he brought it, so in excellent original condition. Will be able to get photos, all details, etc this weekend. Also it is located in Inverell, NSW
Cheers
Robert

Hi Boofrmb, Welcome to the forum. It’s great to hear about your dad’s Viscount. The serial number E67XX tells us quite a bit. The ‘E’ tells us that the van is an Ambassador model, and the fact that the ‘E’ precedes the numerals tells us that it was built in 1970 or earlier. From part way through 1970 the ‘E’ followed the numerals on Ambassador models. I presume that when you typed ‘67XX’, that indicates that you can see that the serial number includes four numerals, but that you can’t read the last two. Is that correct? If that’s the case then the number ‘67XX’ tells us that your van was built in 1968. Viscount introduced the Ambassador model only in 1964, but if your van was built in 1964, the serial number would start with ‘D’. The ‘E’ series serial numbers were introduced in 1965, and are sequential starting with ‘1’, so the first few hundred Ambassadors had a serial number with one, two or three digits. I hope that all helps. We can confirm the above dating of your van if you are able to show us some photos after the weekend. There are instructions on how to post photos on the forum in the ‘Forum Guidelines & Helpful Hints’ section of the forum (see the Home page). In the meantime have a look at the vans shown in this post. Your van should like one of the vans shown for 1968 or 1969. If it doesn’t then the photos will help us work out what is going on. Don Ricardo

Hi Boofrmb,
Great to see the photos of your father’s van. The style of the cladding and the colored ‘lightning bolt’ flashes on the sides of the van all confirm that it is a 1968 build, as also indicated by the serial number ‘E6780’. You may even find a more specific date (day, month and year) written in pencil under the table or in one of the cupboards if you check it out.
Are you going to keep and use the van?

Thanks.
But as my mum really cant afford to hang on to it, it will be up for sale, so have to work how much its worth, been told around $7000 - $8000, but not sure if that's too much. Can someone give me an idea on what it maybe worth.
Cheers Robert

So would anyone have a general price that I could put on the caravan? Cheers Prices don’t generally get discussed on the forum. Do a bit of research and compare your van with others that are for sale and go from there. Good luck.

Hi Robert, best way to get the weight is take it over a weighbridge!
Someone may have better advice, but I think for GVM, allow approx 300kgs over Tare for water, food, luggage etc.
Ball weight- lump of wood & set of scales.
Cheers, SGTL

Hi All.
One big question on the above caravan.
I know the tyres are 13", but the rims, are they Holden or ford rims that will fit.
Thanks in advance
Robert
