Hi.
Iam looking at a "sort of" vintage Baravan (1975) and have been told the roof hatch needs to be replaced. Is this worth it or should I stay clear ?
understand it would depend on how far gone, but is this type of thing a big $ repair in general ?
thanks

Op, it's a bit of a nebulous question if you haven't seen it yourself and cannot describe the damage to us. If a hatch has simply blown off because someone forgot to close it before setting off, then you buy one and replace it, or build one yourself if it's an easy job. Sorry, but talking into a void here.

A Barravan roof hatch from 1975 would be a 4 seasons hatch,if not the van year must be wrong!

Hey Roehm3108 the roof hatch is still on the van just not secured (just found out) so not so bad i would think.
Also would you know of where I could find the weight specs of these vans ? its a 1975 15ft Baravan. Iam restricted to what I can tow with my car as I dont have a cruiser or anything similar. my car is a 2011 Santafe rated to tow 2000KG with a down ball of only 150KGs. I have scales to measure the down ball but iam concerned the ratings of 970 and 1190 may be fictitious.
DO these vans have ID plates or is it a little guess work ?
thanks Luke

You might need to make those enquiries in the Classic Caravan section. It cover caravans from 1970-1980

Hi Vintagevanman,
Interesting to hear about the Baravan you’re looking at, although I’m not sure what ‘sort of’ means?
Can you tell us the length of the van (body only) and the bed layout of the van. That should help us to identify the model. Additionally, if you can post some photos that will help too.
There are instructions on how to post photos in the ‘Forum Guidelines & Helpful Hints’ section of the forum.

hey Don Ricardo
it is on Gumtrees so can only go off what has been posted.
All i know is
1975 Baravan 15ft sleeps 4 (hard to believe It has had some mod done on inside with regards to bedding config.
It will be a reno job so will look total different on the inside ie convert to sleep two kids (bunk) and a double bed for the grown ups.
iam just concerned about weights as i know back in the day registration was a little different to today.
Cheers VINTAGEVANMN..

Hey Shesgotthelook
That is the one and I Picked her up yesterday very happy.
Its in very good condition. There are a few fix ups nothing major. I do need to get a replacement roof hatch but think may have to find a retrofit item or similar. And trying to get my head around the electrical and gas setup.
Happy to send pick if you want but you saw them on the add.
cheers Luke
