Hi I'm looking at purchasing a 12ft globe gold coaster caravan. Van is in reasonable original condition, other than 2 single beds have been converted to double, the hitch has been converted to hydrolic brakes which I believe now hides the serial no. It has original ice chest as well as over bench water tank

Thanks Graeme, the serial number I'm sure is hidden under the new hitch. The patent no is on the side cupboard. The present owner may let Me remove the hitch.

Hi Davec, There are instructions on how to post photos using Flickr in a separate thread in the ‘Forum Guidelines & Helpful Hints’ section of the forum here. Basically you just have to copy and paste the URL for each photo into your forum post, but the instructions give you a step by step guide. Unfortunately we’ve had to remove the ‘Add Attachment’ button because we don’t have the funds to pay for the online storage costs, but inserting the photo URL’s ends up with a better and more permanent result than ‘Add Attachment’, so it’s a sort of a win/win. Hopefully when we see your pics we’ll be able to give you an estimate of the build year. Don Ricardo

A couple of years have passed since I saw this van and I finished up buying it this week. It has been sitting in an old shearing shed for more than 20 years so it's in pretty good shape other than accumulating rubbish and blistered paint. On removing the hitch I found the chassis number 2642 after brushing paint and rust off. Does anyone know when this was possibly made

Hi Davec, You are a lucky person indeed! Not only can we congratulate you on acquiring the Globe Gold Coaster, but we can also help you with a date! Over the years a number of Globe owners have posted the serial number of their van on the forum. Unfortunately, we don't have a register of Globe caravans as such, nor any way of relating particular serial numbers to a build date. BUT, hang on to your hat, because there is one exception where the owner of a Globe Gold Coaster was given the original order form and final invoice for their van, and those two documents include dates! Why that makes you a lucky person is that the serial number of the van with the documents is 2617 - a number just 25 earlier than your serial number of 2642. The info about Globe number 2617 can be found here. The order form for the caravan is dated 15 April 1964, and the invoice (presumably issued prior to delivery) is dated 16 May 1964. Now we don't know what Globe's production rate was in 1964, and therefore how much time passed between number 2617 rolling out of the factory and when your van rolled out, but I'm guessing it may have been a month or perhaps two. That would suggest a production rate of 12-25 a month which sounds reasonable. So I think we can be fairly confident that your van was produced around mid-1964, perhaps June or July. There is some guesswork in that obviously, but I reckon it's pretty close to the mark. Hope that helps. Don Ricardo

Thanks Don I'm delighted to get a rough date of manufacture. When I work out how to add photos I shall post them

I know I'm pushing it a bit but does anybody know if it's possible to purchase a 'gold coaster' with palms sticker or a template so as to put on my van. I know it will be tricky with template on a embossed aluminium
