Hi all, Donna Ricardo and I settled down to watch the first episode of "Ms Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries" on Channel 7 last week, and were delighted to see Sandra and Dennis' 1957 Phoenix starring in one scene. Here's a glimpse of the van from the TV trailer: The series is set in the early 60's, and the Phoenix played the role of the young heroine's home in a caravan park. There was some good footage of the full van in the actual episode, and the makeup artist had applied some dirt to make the van look a bit down at heel for the story. Here's a photo of the van without makeup, and with Sandra and Dennis sharing the limelight, taken at the 2018 Bridgewater event: You can probably watch the film on 'catch-up'. I'm sure everyone will want to watch a couple of hours TV for 2 minutes sighting of a beautiful van... Always good to see a vintage van starring on the small (or big) screen. Well done Sandra and Dennis. Don Ricardo

Hi Willow5075, Avondale vans started to be built in the 1970's. No doubt Hughdeany will be able to tell us more. Being built in the 70's makes them classic vans rather than vintage. (That's not intended in any way to be disparaging or a negative, just a statement of fact. There are lots of classic vans that are really interesting, and of course many caravan makers and models which straddled the two eras. ) Don Ricardo

Hi all, Avondale weren’t around for long, late 70s to early 80s from memory, they were a nice van that had a few more bits and bobs than other vans of the time. They also put Hilandale stickers on their last models,as I said previously, but that wasn’t for very long, and I have never seen one other than in pictures. Hope this helps Cheers hughdeany

Came across another one of those plastic Olympic caravans yesterday! Pulled over after finding the caravan being towed by a very throaty sounding Zephyr 6.

Well spotted Mr R3108. I think there’s an Olympic get together on this weekend up your way, so maybe that’s where the van was heading.
For what it’s worth, I think the tow vehicle is a Zodiac rather than a Zephyr, based on the polished chrome strip along the rear, below the boot.

Correct - that is us! Mk 3 Zodiac (with extractors and new throaty exhaust and Holley Sniper fuel injection) towing our Micro Olympic. Would have been on the way to Chrome and Clutter in Laidley. Did 650 klm that weekend, and got 21.4 miles per gallon. 2 Weekends later, we did 450klm in the same rig going to the Samford Show. PS: The Zodiac is for sale, due to him buying another Zephyr Mk 3 wagon - even rarer than the Zodiac, and the new wagon is getting an even throatier V8, so will be able to tow our 16', meaning we will be selling the Micro too.

Here's a rather unusual "spotto" occasion! It happened on this site and I wonder if anybody other than myself noticed it? New member "reobug" recently told us about his inherited Rambler Caravan and sent me some photo's to upload. This photo had me curious: "What's that teardrop curvey thing beside the Rambler?", I asked reobug. He directed me to this link: froute.com.au/froute-gallery/If you carefully scroll through the pics gallery, you will find several pics of the same van in varying poses. Yes, yes, it's a food van, but you can't knock the creativity and workmanship that's gone into it. And I reckon reobug has been checking out my model rig collection to come up with his handle - my VW Beetle Cabriolet towing a Reo baby caravan!
