Hi all,
I've received a few questions about whether the owners of caravans at the Vintage Caravan Nationals in Wangaratta are covered for public liability should a visitor or another attendee injure themselves while in and around your caravans. The answer is that there is no group public liability insurance in place, but you may be covered by your own caravan insurance (you would need to check your policy or with your insurer).
We might look at group public liability insurance for future Nationals, but it is not a straightforward issue because the Vintage Caravans forum is not an incorporated association or entity, and therefore it may be difficult to obtain cover. Obviously if we did obtain cover we would need to charge a fee to attendees.
If you are concerned about not having public liability cover, especially on Sunday when we are expecting members of the public to visit the caravan park to check out our beautiful vans, you may wish to put a string or rope across the doorway of your van to prevent people entering the van, and/or removing or closing the step to your van. People then may look into the van but may not enter it. Obviously you also need to set up your awning guy ropes and pegs, and any props or decorations around your van in such a way as to minimize any tripping hazard.

If people check their caravan insurance policies they should find they are covered for public liability.

It is possible to get a group policy without being an incorporated body
