The arms you refer to are load levelling or anti-sway bars. Very useful but there is a knack to setting them up properly. There was some recent discussion on here about them, give me a chance to find it. Some tips for towing- don't overload the van, especially at the back, always double check your connections, doors, unsecured objects etc. Make sure gas is turned off, if the fridge will run on 12v- remember to switch it off when you stop! (otherwise you will end up with a flat battery ) Wind up stabilizers Make the bed & tidy up in the morning because lots of people will want to look inside your cool van How am I doing? Oh, & remember to have fun. Cheers, SGTL

A V8 Holden & a Viscount, does it get any more Aussy ? I like your curtain pattern, we have been looking but not found a design like yours. Re your rear tyres - I think the levelers would be a good help, you may have some guard rubbing otherwise.

Hey. Love it. We have a 66'Hr standard ready to tow the 63' viscount valiant. I have added a photo but the van will be aluminium without the maroon. We are rebuilding it.

Great looking pair. Should tow and stop well as Brenten said. I use the weight distribution bars on our Chev just to even the weight and stop the back dropping. With my setup I pull the bar up by hand and set it so that it is riding at the same height as the car is without the van.
good luck with it, Nick

Hi All, I have a HG Panel Van with 186 Trimatic when it goes back in as it is under restoration. I have a Carapark 12/9 and the HG Van will become the tow car eventually. Where can I find the towing capacity of the HG Van? Back in the day we towed enormous loads with our old Holdens (and Fords etc) but those days are gone with all the regulations. I toyed with the idea of a 350 up front but the funds don't stretch that far anymore. I have the engine but not the rest of the running gear to go with it. I could go TH350 and 10 bolt out of a One Tonner and HQ - WB Discs up front which are all bolt in parts as I don't want to modify the Van in any way. I'm out of work now and have to wait till September for retirement. Can't drive a truck anymore..... TIA. Ron

Hi there In NSW any trailer over 750kg must have brakes fitted. I reckon I'd be pretty accurate that your HG panelvan weighs between 1350kg to 1400kg. The sedans and Monaros were a bit under 1350kg. The panel van would also have a higher tow rating than the sedan as it has the heavier/commercial vehicle leaf springs at the rear end. I think it will be an ideal platform to tow your carapark with and look the part too. regards Jenno

Thanks Jenno and Chris. I am sure the hg van will handle the Carapark easily even with a 186 up front. I intend to keep the Carapark as original as possible as the axle, bearings, springs, greasable shackles and brakes are all in good usable condition. I checked it all and brake tested it before wiring up new lights and towing it on a permit from the snowy mountains to Blackbutt Qld. 1400k's. It towed extremely well. I intend to keep the exterior in as found condition as it is dull but totally original having never had any paint applied other than the original red stripes which are chipped and peeling. Cheers. Ron
