For those people out there who have already restored a van, what would you do differently next time?
I thought this might help those people just starting out.
Something we should have done when the van was re-wired was to get a cigarette lighter socket installed somewhere inconspicuous. There are lots of appliances that could run off the 12v circuit that way, and the little solar panel would plug into it for trickle-charging the battery.

Hi Belinda Because a lot of time is spent out under the annexe listening to the radio and cooking at night by 12volt fluro etc. . I have recently installed a double cigarette lighter socket in our van. I Purchased it from an auto parts place. I drilled 2 holes about 25mm round through the side of the van to line up with the outlets. I then mounted the sockets inside the wheel arch space inside the van where the battery is located.
The outlets are down in the side of the van near the corner of the access door and I use 2 rubber bungs to plug the holes when travelling/not in use. If i paint the plugs you would hardly notice them.
The van has no gas or 240 volt installed and the only other mod con is the 2 X 6watt/12 volt globes . one at either end of the overhead cupboards. If i want a brighter light i just remove one of the globes.......LLLLLUUUUUUXXXXXUUUUURRRRYYYY !!!

I'd have bought a pressure washer BEFORE I strip the paint off the aluminium, I wouldn't bother buying aluminium chemical brightener. Can't think of anything else I would have done differently. cheers
