No need for more firewood, we have been having an unseasonably warm winter. 17 degrees today, in July, that is just unheard of!!! Last winter was so cold, I tried to convince my husband we needed to move back to the mainland. This winter I am wondering why you would want to live anywhere else!!
Welcome to Tassie Gordo, when I am next in Queenstown, I will look you up. Please come visit us when you are in Hobart.

Evening all.Well finally got internet & my media room set up in what was the original office today. Nothing major happening other than the incessant rain which has meant a new roof (some 30m just on one side alone!) can`t be fitted until the sun comes out.In the meantime most of my furniture is stacked on the driveway side.Minor renovation to bathroom by slicing a metre off its 4m length giving me a 1m x 2m wide alcove to slot a kitchen dresser into.New wiring/power points/light fitting to 3 bedrooms/dining/laundry/bathroom & a triple to kitchen which allowed me to add ali industrial shades to it,the dining & the bedrooms.Looks & works great.Dear old teardrop is happily ensconssed in its own 8m square shed - that's the weatherboard section you see in one of Bob&Jacquis pictures elsewhere.Gotta say I`m pretty impressed with how things are going otherwise. Great people/food/prices. gordo

G'day Gordon, Great to hear that all is going well with your new abode. Looked like there was a new roof on a major part of the building or was it just painted? Look forward to seeing what you do with your renovations Cheers Bob and Jacqui

Hi Bob&Jacqui. The street side roofing was done a few years ago & is in good nick. However there is no sisalation under the tin.At a later date this will happen. The creek side needs to be replaced in total having been only patch sheeted through the years thereby allowing rain to drip through rusted areas & screw holes. There is an upside to it - great Lysatt imperial measurement orb logos!! These I`m keeping for another idea.Once the roof is done the front roller shutter door is going & is being replaced with a sliding barn door that currently forms part of the double garage rear wall (opposite front entrance landing at end of driveway).I already have a window to refit there giving boundless light into. The original cascade sign will then be reinstated above barn door.

Morning all. Well the roofing iron finally arrived so that`s brightened my day.The guy who`s doing the job as well as other folks roofs does so inbetween chemo treatment.Best guestimate so far is 3 weeks. On another note I bought a 17`6" half cabin.Picking up via Spirit > Melbourne on the 12th. gordo

Working out at the Forster bike shop this morning & reading your story ( between customers ) about moving to Tassie & what a great story it is , the photos are fantastic & all the comments are great , it makes me want to go back to Tassie for another visit , i remember having a beer & pizza in Hobart when i was over there & the lady who served me said she came over to Tassie for a visit & has been there for 19 years & loving it.

Gday Pete. Good to see you`re still lurking about..How`s your reno going? The digs are progressing albeit slowly.Funny thing down here,no one seems to be in any hurry which does tick me off at times. The trades are here but they`ll do things only when they want to.Flip side is its great to be living here. One thing I have noticed is there`s no pollution.Certainly plenty of log fires burn down here but the air is still very fresh.First time in years I have to wear sunnies also.Quite glarey & the sun does have a bite to it,even at 20 degrees.Rain? Get a fair bit but i have sufficient things to do to not need to worry about it.Anyways you`re welcome anytime you feel a trip over the Strait coming on. cheers gordo

Yeah still lurking about.. still got unfinished resto business on the old Observatory - which I've finally made a dint in the last week. "not in a hurry" would be a nice way to be "ticked off" I must admit; "no pollution" yes please. Hopefully I will get down that way eventually, and thanks for the welcome offer. Same goes if you're ever up this way - the Observatory is basically guests quarters. All best Gordo Pete

Hi guys.Renos are way behind schedule.Things move kind of slowly down here. It`s a case of 'when we see you'.Roofing took nearly 12 months to sort after purchasing.Because of that i ended up with half finished areas of the place.So....ahead of me now is to finish bathroom (gal mini orb walls with decorative lengths of huon pine pieces done.Pressed metal ceiling panels to do) & laundry (foldaway louvre doors done.Fitting a lower sloping internal corrugated iron roof over doors.3 bedrooms to do.Dining/lounge to do.But things are happening....took out the stupid double glass sliding door between dining & lounge. Also the stupid double glass fire doors leading from lounge (9.5m x 4.5m stone wall with window section) to loading dock which is the front 11m x 10m weather board section of building.I also removed the roller door from front of loading dock & replaced with the original gal mini orb slide barn door c/o the rear of double garage. (the double garage has that sign above it). Just bought some custom orb sheeting in Surf Mist colour to clad over the weather boards as a number are beyond saving & given the weather down here it cops the brunt of wind/rain.Colour isn`t that far removed from original.Picked up a gorgeous antique timber fireplace surround/mantle mirror ex old hotel in Strahan.Once i get the hang of the the photo thingy & sort out 'w i n 10' i`ll put up some pics.As always any one venturing this way feel free to drop in.Oh,had my cataracts done.Bloody beauty...i can see clearly now! cheers gordo I should point out that we don`t have ozone layer here....when its hot its bleeding hot.....you get direct sun heat.....if its 25 it may as well be 35.....if its 35, may as well be 45.....
