Why is it that plywood cladding of the side walls on some vans is laid horizontally, with the grain going east-west, while others have it laid vertically with the grain running north-south? Is one way better than the other, if so which? ? I intend to reclad my Chesney, for various reasons, and at the moment the plywood is fitted vertically with a wooden vertical cover strip. For appearance sake, I am considering fitting the new cladding horizontally, with a horizontal cover strip. What are your thoughts? Ray

Howdy Ray There is no right or wrong answer here in my opinon. As long as all the ply is going one way I think it does not matter. All the books I have go both ways? If you do not want to see the grain paint the surface with a good paint and sand between coats or do what they did in th 1960's use masinite whick has no grain. I also think that if a sheet of ply fits better one way because of cost then this to is a major way also of deciding. Hope this helps you out Cheers Retro1
