I went and saw the australian movie "dressmaker" starring Kate Winslett last night. A lovely old VV features in it quite a bit. I first thought it a paramount but I was wrong there having checked history page. Its very rounded each end with a small "lantern" roof merging into a window on one end. Reminds me of the lovely pink and grey home built job that I last saw n the corner near the main road at Cowra nationals. one for you all to ponder jenno

G'day Jenno,
I emailed Austin 125 and he confirmed that the van is his 'home made' lantern roof job, he apparently hired a couple of his vans to them but I wasn't quick enough to see the other one..... did you ?
Maybe one was used for inside shots and the other for exterior shots ?
Cobber.

Mine was in a horror movie shot up here near Canberra. An electric shadows tropfest type of picture it was pretty weird......but the pay was Good!!!!!! The "home made" of Allans used in the movie would have to be a dead ringer for the pink and grey 'home made' one that I saw at Cowra a few yrs back (and at a few other events). Same model/kit for sure jenno

Hi Cobber and Jennison, Dona Ricardo and I took ourselves off to the picture theatre (can't say 'cinema' on a vintage forum ) today to see "The Dressmaker". Part way through the film I was reminded of this exchange between the two of you (with SGTL's contribution) because I began to see glimpses of a rather nice lantern roof vintage caravan, and then some full views of the same van from several angles. And bonus - there were some glimpses of at least one other van. Once I got home I noted from SGTL's post that the vans for the film had been provided by Austin125, and started digging around to see what I could find out about the vans on screen. The main van was this one shown in a photo from Austin125's Vintage Caravan Hire website: According to the website this caravan is a 1940's home-built. The other van which you see in the film, and to which you both refer, is this 1928 home-built that is mainly covered by a tarp in the film, so you only get glimpses: I think Cobber may be correct in saying that yet another van may have been used for the internal shots. The interior of the van shown in the film seems to be more commodious than the interior of 1940's home-built, and certainly isn't as colourful as the photos of this van shown on the Vintage Caravan Hire website. Perhaps Austin125 can tell us more? I just hope he got his name up in lights in the credits! It's a bit of worry when you think more about the caravans used as props in a film than the twists in the plot! Still, 'The Dressmaker' is a very enjoyable film with lots to think about afterwards (and not just vintage caravans!). It's worth seeing if you haven't already. Don Ricardo and I gave it 3 1/2 stars. Don Ricardo
